Bachelor's degree in Geography, Cartography, Geographical Information Systems; two years of experience using GIS; or any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in an earth science discipline (geography, cartography, geology, surveying, drafting or civil engineering) with courses or training in the use of geographic information systems, preferably ESRI products, including ArcGIS and ArchInfo. Experience with CAD software, preferably AutoCAD, is required. Applicants must have a thorough understanding of GIS concepts; knowledge of relational database operation; knowledge of digital cartographic techniques and standards; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Other areas of software expertise should include 1) Microsoft Word, 2) Microsoft Excel, and 3) Adobe Acrobat. Good driving record required. Must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. The County of Chesterfield is currently recruiting for the position of GIS Analyst for the Engineering Data Management Division of the Utilities Department. The GIS Analyst has a broad range of responsibilities related to the maintenance of the Utilities Department's GIS related data; to include routine updates to the water, sewer, and easement GIS layers; the creation and maintenance of utility schematics via computer aided drafting software; analyze and compile geographic data to create publishable maps. Duties will include reading and transcribing engineering plans, field notes, and easement plats as necessary. Verifying water and sewer availability for the public. Perform other work as required.
