The Dean of Students is hired by the Senior Leadership Team to manage daily oversight of student disciplinary issues and assist Assistant Principal and Principal in the academic routine of the day. In the absence of one of the Assistant Principal, the Dean of Students will assume responsibility of the school facility. Also, the Dean of Students is committed to the Argosy Collegiate Charter School Board of Trustees’ policies regarding equity, human rights and cross cultural understanding and reports directly to the Principal of the school or his/her designee.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related area required; related years of experience may be substituted for education requirement.
- 3-4 years prior administrative/instructional leadership experience in an urban and/or charter school setting strongly preferred.
- Strong communication skills, both written and spoken.
- Ability to relate well to others.

SUPERVISION: Assistant Dean of Students, Restorative Justice Coordinator
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
While actual roles and responsibilities will vary depending on individual circumstances, the Dean of Students will generally be required to perform some or all of the following tasks. Note that this list is not all-inclusive and that the administrator may also assign other tasks he/she deems appropriate.
- Assists Assistant Principal and Principal in enforcing the behavioral and academic standards and expectations of Argosy; (a) Issues disciplinary consequences along with Assistant Principal; oversees discipline programs; (b) Completes all required forms related to disciplinary issues (i.e. detention notices, ISS/OSS notices, etc.); (c) Contacts parents/guardians regarding such discipline; meets with parents to discuss disciplinary circumstances; meets with staff on behalf of student when necessary
- Uses LiveSchool to keep track of student disciplinary issues and informs Assistant Principal of scholars with serious and/or multiple infractions;
- Schedules and meets with Assistant Principal, parents and guardians of all scholars who have served an Out of School Suspension.
- Records and keeps written notes of all meetings with grade level team leaders, grade level teams, parents/students; addresses academic/behavior concerns
- Sets-up meetings with parents regarding major behavioral/disciplinary issues; assists Assistant Principal in academic and disciplinary meetings, as needed, including quarter and retention meetings
- Collaborates with Assistant Principal, Principal, Directors, and Student Adjustment Counselors to address needs of students with multiple/repeated disciplinary issues as well as student relationships. These meetings may address the relationship between behavior and academics.
- Prepares daily, monthly, quarterly, and yearly positive rewards and student assemblies (in conjunction with Assistant to Dean of Students);
- Prepares and displays data detailing individuals and homerooms who have met classroom and school behavior expectations each month, quarterly and yearly
- Monitors all Student Behavior Management Plans in collaboration with the School Adjustment Counselors; attends bimonthly Health/Counseling meetings with Director of Student Support and school team.
- Monitors the number of In-School and Out-of-School student suspensions and notifies the Director of Student Support when students have reached a number of suspensions requiring the completion of a Manifest Determination; attends meetings with parents, scholars, and grade level team.
- Monitors attendance and conducts appropriate interventions and meeting with parents/guardians
- Files court documents to report truancy and other serious behavior to the local court system; reports back to administrative team with ongoing court cases.
- Develops, implements, and supervises new scholar incentive programs to improve relationships between staff and scholars.
- Arranges transportation for scholars; partners with the local school district to provide effective, safe, organized transportation.
- Partner with the transportation provider to ensure scholars are meeting expectations during travel to and from school.
- Manages scholar intake to ensure an organized, safe, warm welcoming for scholars upon arrival to school.
- Provides report to Assistant Principal and Principal indicating outstanding student/parent behavior/academic concerns, attends Assistant Principal meetings with the Executive Director.
- Collects and reviews disciplinary records for Awards nominees.
- Assists Assistant Principal with supervision of instructional staff; observes classes upon request of Assistant Principal.
- Assists with orientation of new staff members, interviews staff applicants upon request.
- Assists in maintaining a safe and secure atmosphere for students by developing, implementing, and overseeing evacuation and lockdown plans.
- Oversees ceremonies and events at Argosy Collegiate when Assistant Principal is not available.
- Any other duties or responsibilities related to this position as assigned by the Assistant Principal, Principal, or Directors.

Pay: $70,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
