RESPONSIBILITIES

The Senior Tax Manager will function as a key advisor and member of the LRICo leadership team and will oversee all aspects of tax. This includes working directly with the firm’s internal accounting and finance teams as well as actively managing external tax relationships with multiple 3rd party service firms.

We desire a candidate with strong financial and business acumen, extensive tax experience and a working, practical knowledge and hands-on approach for the differences between book/accrual accounting versus tax accounting concepts. Additionally, we expect the candidate to learn quickly and apply his/her learnings to their role. The ability to critically think and articulate complicated tax concepts, legal structures or recommended planning strategies is imperative. We expect the individual to be a thought leader and be “ahead of the curve” on tax matters and how they may impact LRICo and its portfolio of companies, not only on current business and real estate holdings, but also on new potential investments.

In addition to responsibility for tax strategy, compliance and thought leadership, the candidate will have the opportunity to apply and grow his/her financial acumen and responsibilities, depending on his/her performance and aspirations. We anticipate the role for the individual could evolve over time to include other financial responsibilities for the portfolio, depending on the candidate’s performance, time management skills, work ethic and capability (and desire) to assume additional non-tax specific responsibilities. This is not required but is certainly a potential career development opportunity for the selected individual.

Foundational Activities & Objectives for the position include:

  • Lead and manage the firm’s third-party service providers in the timely gathering, evaluation and review of critical accounting data for the preparation of the firm’s various partnership, S-Corp, corporate, trust and personal returns
  • Review and guide accounting personnel on opportunities for improving bookkeeping to facilitate smoother production of tax information for our service providers
  • Consult and advise on new deal activity as it relates to structuring sales or purchases of business interests in entities (partnerships, S-Corps and C-Corps) and real estate assets
  • Identify opportunities (in working with our 3rd party tax service providers) for the firm and its businesses to enhance value through tax planning strategies

This position is a superb career opportunity for someone who enjoys being in a dynamic, entrepreneurial situation grounded in its Midwestern roots/cultural values. Tax planning and provisioning is a critical element of the firm’s value creation strategy. This role will be viewed as a critical advisor to the Executive leadership of LRICo and the Rudd family and has the opportunity to step into other roles over time as the businesses and Foundation evolve.

  • Bachelors degree is required.
  • CPA is strongly preferred.
  • A graduate degree (e.g., MPA or MBA) will be considered favorably.

  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant tax experience, including responsibility for state, local and federal taxation matters.
  • Working knowledge of advanced partnership taxation and accounting.
  • Entrepreneurial tendencies above the norm; someone who is a self-starter with a high level of energy and drive.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work autonomously to drive deadlines both for oneself, his/her peers and the individuals or 3rd party service providers they manage.
  • Experience working in multiple industries and sizes of companies is a definite positive attribute.
