This is a technical position within the Research organization of Emerson. The Research group is responsible for exploring and assessing new technologies for process automation, specifically, but not limited to, final control elements. The primary focus of this role will involve research and development of next generation IIoT, Industry 4.0, AI and M2M technologies and architectures for the process industries. A successful candidate will have a strong background in areas such as machine learning, cognitive computing, signal processing, engineering analysis, probability and statistics. They should have an enthusiasm for science and technology coupled with an ability to work within a team of peers.

Collaborates and works alongside a team of domain experts responsible for developing a new generation of hardware and software to establish final control performance and health.
Interpret and develop solutions to business problems using current and advanced data feature engineering and machine learning techniques.
Contribute to data mining architectures, modelling standards, reporting, and data analysis methodologies.
Interface with internal teams and customers to understand their IIoT needs, develop use cases, generate processes, and develop overall solution requirements.
Research best ways to secure process control IT/OT infrastructure
Identify security design gaps in existing and proposed architectures and recommend / design changes or enhancements
Design, setup and execution of software, sensor, communications and electronics testing.
Support the Device Design, Software Design, Service, Support and Marketing teams for new feature/ product launches.
Develop content (white papers, methodologies, articles, internal training, etc.)


Masters of Science or higher in a STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) field and 5+ years of related work experience

OR PhD in a related field.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
Deep understanding or functional expertise in one or many of the following areas:
Cognitive computing, predictive analytics, cloud technologies
Software defined radios
Electromagnetics, RF design, radio protocols
Embedded systems and inter-processor architectures
Industrial communication protocols, such as HART, Foundation Fieldbus, Profibus PA, Modbus-RTU, HART IP
Sensor technologies
Digital signal processing
Knowledge of one or more common programming languages, such as C/C++, C#, R, Python
