What you’ll be doing...
Verizon’s Content Strategy and Partnerships team is responsible for connecting consumers with the content and experiences they love on the Nation’s Best Network. The team oversees partnerships, sources opportunities and negotiates with a broad range of content and programming entities, including major broadcast and cable companies, sports leagues, emerging O&O platforms, OTT/digital providers, studios, AR/VR producers, retailers, gaming developers, and live entertainment venues and production companies.
The ideal candidate will drive C-level strategic decision making within Verizon, as well as serve as the strategic expert on the Content Team, interfacing with and, when appropriate, leading negotiations with various partners across verticals. This leader and their team will impact our current business by optimizing our existing deal pipeline, as well as shape the path for the future of the content business at Verizon.
In addition to playing a key role across our growing roster of partners, this executive will develop the content strategy for the future consumer business, including the role Verizon plays in the massive consumer shift to OTT video and services, as well as 5G and the future of fan and consumer experience. Content serves as a key driver in consumer decision making, and the role content plays for our current and future customers is increasingly critical. As the largest direct-to-consumer platform in the U.S., Verizon has a massive opportunity to herald in the next consumer use cases for video, audio, immersive and live experiences. This role sits at the center of that opportunity.
Lead Content Strategy for Verizon’s Consumer Group and Beyond
Identify points of leverage in existing linear content pipeline for partnership opportunities that drive new revenue for Verizon Business Group and Verizon Media Group
Generate strategies for expanding existing partnerships across Verizon Business Group, Verizon Media Group, and Verizon Consumer Group into omnibus deals that fully leverage Verizon’s scale
Drive cross-functional communication between groups, getting alignment and consensus and reconciling multiple pipelines
Work proactively with Verizon Consumer Group Strategy teams to drive the next iteration of Verizon’s comprehensive video strategy
Develop New Opportunities for Growth for Verizon in the Content and Media Industry
Lead a team that generates innovative and disruptive business cases that demonstrate mastery of KPI’s across Verizon Home and Mobile
Set and exceed goals for generating new revenue and/or value for Verizon using content a key lever
Assign and formalize values of Verizon media and distribution platforms; leverage the full scale of Verizon’s ecosystem for next generation content deals
Lead, Identify, Structure, and Execute on Strategic Partnerships:
With respect to new internal strategic initiatives, drive consistent approach to market by Content team, help set deal terms, and consult or negotiate with external partners as appropriate/needed
Identify new opportunities and lead negotiations when needed; ensure successful execution and operationalization of new partnerships
Collaborate with Content team lead negotiators on initiatives, ensuring consistent internal/external messaging and effective translation of strategic plan into implementation of most preferred deal terms
Establish meeting cadence with internal business units that promotes shared goals, partnership execution, and transparency
Lead Content Team Efforts with Verizon Ventures, M&A and Corporate Partnerships:
Develop opportunities for joint ventures to accelerate growth in content and media
Serve as primary POC for Verizon Ventures in developing a robust venture-based strategy for relevant and/or strategic startups in the content and media spaces
Serve as main POC for Corporate Strategy related to firm-level partnerships and opportunities (e.g., Disney, Microsoft, etc)
Manage and Facilitate the Professional Development of the Individuals on the Content Team:
Hire and manage a team to highest standards of performance
Cultivate an environment that encourages cross-functional teamwork, cooperation, and open lines of communication horizontally and vertically
Emphasize career development and advancement
Prioritize and deliver clear, consistent, and actionable feedback
Model expert executive communication by delegating down and reporting up, providing opportunities for project ownership and visibility for your direct reports with leadership
What we’re looking for...
What You Need to Have
10+ years of experience in a senior leadership role in a related field
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
Experience in translating market knowledge and strategy into compelling stories and tools for a leadership team
Proven experience in presenting to senior executives
Demonstrated success delivering insights targeted to specific audiences (up to the executive level)
Experience in cross-functional collaboration with a diverse set of stakeholders to get results across multiple groups and disciplines throughout the organization
Even Better If You Have
Master’s or other advanced degree – MBA preferred
Exceptional verbal and visual communication skills
A track record of success in partner management, business development, and deal negotiation
Strong management and organization skills and the ability to be effective in a fast-paced environment
Exceptional interpersonal, communication, critical thinking, and analytical skills
Ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with content partners and the industry at large, representing Verizon as an industry leader
Understanding of market dynamics, customer trends, and the competitive landscape
Ability to anticipate risks and drive risk management with cross-functional team
Ability to juggle multiple priorities to meet deadlines in a dynamic environment
Experience analyzing what’s important from a variety of sources to provide a holistic view of the marketplace, competitive factors, risks, and opportunities
Strong self-initiative and persistence and ability to deal with a high degree of ambiguity and drive clarity in key areas
Excellent communication skills
Thought leadership - big picture thinker with a strong grasp of industry trends and a predisposition for market disruption
Deep understanding of a dynamic multi-platform content market (including linear acquisition and distribution business models, the technological underpinnings of digital content distribution platforms, knowledge of market trends and dynamics, and a thorough understanding of the wireless business)
Ability to develop and deploy systems and processes as related to multiplatform content acquisition and partner management
Solution-oriented approach to problem solving, and flexibility to shift priorities as needed
Comfort reviewing, dissecting, digesting, questioning, and drawing conclusions from various data sets
Experience building and managing a team
Ability to work independently with minimal direction and cross functionally as part of a larger team
Prior work experience in consulting
Experience designing custom research approaches to gain broader or deeper consumer and market insights
Digital experience and an understanding of trends and key business drivers
