o This individual is responsible for the accuracy and completion of dictated/transcribed documentation in the Health Information Services Department. The documentation editor must have an excellent background in medical transcription, thorough knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy/physiology, disease processes, medications, grammar, punctuation, and spelling. The documentation editor must also have superior typing skills, an understanding of foreign accents/dialects, and be qualified to make appropriate and superior decisions in the transcription process itself. The documentation editor will ensure that the office functions properly through all shifts of the 7-day week. Ensures that dictation is transcribed within agreed upon turnaround times. Monitors closely and regularly the production standards in the department. Responsible for generation of statistical reports including volume of dictation and transcription, quality and production. Responsible for recruiting, supervising, and evaluating staff. Provides appropriate orientation, job training, and performance expectations. Listens to dictation and offers transcriptionists editorial guidance, applying knowledge of English and medical language, style, and practices. Identifies the need for and facilitates continuing education for staff. Reviews and makes recommendations for leases/service contracts for dictation and transcription equipment. Assesses condition of equipment and furnishings to identify need for replacement or repair. This individual must have computer systems experience and knowledge, must possess leadership, communication and organizational skills. Should also be able to work with the HIS staff to ensure timely availability of medical reports; and assist the organization's IS department as needed with the EMR.
Knowledge of anatomy/physiology, pharmacology, and medical terminology preferred. Strong knowledge of transcription hardware or software strongly preferred.
A minimum of two years experience in medical facility with demonstrated success in developing, implementing and managing computerized medical transcription and dictation systems.
RHIA/RHIT/CMT certifications preferred.
