Recreational Assistants – Part time & Per Diem

Sunday – Thursday 3 PM to 8 PM; Saturday 8 AM to 12 PM

Easter Seals is currently interviewing for Recreational Assistants for the Pappas Rehabilitation Hospital for Children (PRHC) in Canton, MA. Responsibilities include leading and instructing students and patients with disabilities with daily living and recreational activities such as swimming, horseback riding, arts & crafts, bowling, and other activities.

Responsibilities Include:
Knowledge and experience with a variety of individual and group recreational activities, and the ability to lead activities as directed by PRHC Recreation Coordinator.
Knowledge and skills regarding adapted equipment and wheelchair safety.
Confers with the PRHC Recreation Coordinator regularly to assist in evaluating students’ progress towards summer program objectives
Assists recreation staff with student’s activities of daily living, including personal care and nutrition
Encourages the student’s independence in all phases of his/her recreation program
Instructs a variety of activities in individual and group settings (recreation activities, social skills, daily living skills, etc.) to reinforce instructional objectives and ensuring students’ success in the recreation program
May assist recreation staff with student’s personal care needs as needed (diapering, changing clothing, feeding, etc.)
Monitors students within a variety of recreational environments (e.g. activity areas, pool, rest rooms/locker rooms, hallways, parking lots, etc.) providing a safe and positive learning environment
Provides support for the students to enable them to participate in activities (including entering the pool with the student) as directed by the PRHC Coordinator.

Qualifications & Experience:
Associate’s Degree or equivalent in specialized training and experience
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
2+ years of experience in a similar role (PCA or school aide)
2+ years of experience with children and young adults with physically disabilities
Knowledge of the special needs of students who have behavioral, learning, or physical disabilities
