The University of Virginia Data Science Institute (DSI) is educating data scientists, undertaking leading-edge research and collaborating with private and government sectors as part of a virtuous cycle to take us into a better, brighter future. The DSI Event Planner will be a member of the Operations Team in the DSI. The Event Planner will have responsibility for acting as an ambassador to the on-Grounds and regional community, operationalizing DSI goals via events programming, and performing all aspects of event planning, including developing and monitoring budgets, confirming and managing venue vendors, negotiating all financial commitments for events, and ensuring delivery of services by outside vendors.

Reporting to the Associate Director for Operations and Strategic Initiatives, the Event Planner has primary responsibility for coordinating all pre-, on-site, and post-event logistics, including developing clear and consistent planning documentation, maintaining ongoing contact with all stakeholders, conveying the appropriate timeline to internal and external event partners, managing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment, providing strong leadership and direction for event constituents, and reporting results and recommendations for future events. The Event Planner will also seek out new programming opportunities and contact potential speakers and reimagine current programming. S/he will be an integral part of the planning committee and setting vision for our existing events and new events that are developed.

The Event Planner will serve as the primary contact for providing information and leadership on events programming and planning, and is expected to be a flexible, enthusiastic strategist comfortable working with a variety of constituents and making independent decisions in an ambiguous and fast-paced environment.
