Basic Function/Overall Responsibilities: The Tilton School Counselor will provide a comprehensive counseling program to assist and advise students in obtaining the appropriate academic courses to meet graduation requirements so they can become college and/ or career ready.
Principal Assigned Responsibilities:

Attend all intake meeting for students to gather appropriate information for student classroom placement.

Coordinate the placement of students in appropriate classrooms based on their academic and treatment needs and communicate sane with designated agency staff.

Obtain and maintain student academic records in the School Tool student data management system to reflect accurate student schedules, current report cards, attendance and transcripts and other related information for students enrolled at the Tilton School.

Coordinate and maintain all school discharge correspondence for students transferring to another school district.

Orient new students to the Tilton School and supply them with their schedules and other necessary supplies.

Provide staff training as deemed appropriate by School Administration.

Assist School Administration in creating and maintaining an ongoing evaluative effort to encourage and implement "Best Practices" within the Tilton School.

Participate in school in-services and mandatory training and demonstrate an ongoing commitment to and active participation in the agency' s Quality Improvement Program.

Ensure Appropriate supervision and coverage for the school program during staff absences. Other related tasks as directed by supervisor.

Maintain the course catalog for all courses offered at the Tilton School.

Develop a Master Schedule each school year for all students and courses taught at the Tilton School for the regular and extended school year.

Monitor grades entered in School Tool for accuracy and to ensure students are on track for graduation.

Complete credit checks for students upon intake and yearly thereafter to ensure accuracy and that students are on track for graduation.

Act as a liaison and support in concert with BOCES Regional Information Center for any Tilton Staff using School Tool.

Ensure that any gaps in student course histories and academic reports are rectified by working with students home school districts to ensure accuracy.

Provide School Tool access and training for new staff. Relationships - Supervision and Coordination: The School Counselor reports directly to the Principal and has regularly scheduled supervision sessions with that individual. They will work closely with the CSE Chairperson to create and maintain records for all students who are educationally classified. They must also develop and maintain positive working relationships with all agency staff, staff from referring agencies and local school districts, students and their parents. The School Counselor must maintain open lines of communication with the entire agency.
Education & Experience Requirements:

New York State School Counselor Certification.

Bachelors or Masters Degree in School Counseling.

One year of experience as a guidance counselor, or systems manager in a school setting preferred.

Follows mandated reporting requirements regarding child abuse and neglect.

Practices infection control, including appropriate hand washing procedures.

Valid New York State Driver License.
