Primary duties:
Managing and troubleshooting the State's VOip, State Networks and wireless network systems
Component diagnostics and repair of a variety of non-computer related telecommunication systems
Component diagnostics and repair of a variety of computer related telecommunication systems
Provide assistance to an agency in defining their telecommunications needs, procuring equipment, and coordinating installation
The candidate chosen will also perform spectrum analysis and site surveys for use of designing and installing wireless networks at various state agencies; create "heat" maps of Agency locations for use of installation of wireless access points; troubleshoot, diagnose, make adjustments, repairs and perform upgrades to wireless networks, wireless controllers and network equipment related to wireless; manage inventory of wireless access points, and wireless controller licenses and work directly with Engineering in controller design and installations.
They will also installs parts, equipment, lines, hardware or software, etc; troubleshoots and makes adjustments to optimize initial performance; maintains accurate records and logs; writes and / or uses computer programs to generate and analyze data; identifies problems or potential problem areas and recommends solutions as well as determines non-standard engineering requirements, line and trunk configurations, jack, wiring and numbering plans. Arranges space for equipment rooms. Maintains calendars; schedules and coordinates appointments.

The ideal candidate:
Should know about communications systems which may include, VOip, POTS, encryption devices, video systems, antenna systems, and wireless systems as well as computer related systems including network components.

clearly can determine what is causing an operating error and determine resolution
enter, transcribe, record, store, or maintain information in either written or electronic form
able to install equipment, machines, wiring, or software programs to meet specifications
understand how to read and interpret maps, plats, charts, plans, blueprints and/or electrical schematics
make a decision or solve a problem by using logic to identify key facts, explore alternatives, and propose quality solutions
installation, repair and maintenance of electrical systems, equipment transmission, broadcasting, switching, control and operation of telecommunications systems
able to operate applicable specialized equipment
able to arrange, coordinate, or schedule time and details

Supplemental Information:
Employment contingent upon passing a drug test and a background check.
Must have a valid Utah driver license and maintain clean driving record as required to operate state vehicle.
Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
