Mastery Charter Schools seeks a College Advisor to support Mastery Charter students on the road to college acceptance, matriculation and completion. The College Advisor is responsible for maintaining a whole-school college-completion culture – building awareness among Mastery students, parents and staff—leading to students enrolling in colleges of best fit. S/he will work directly with students and their families throughout the college application process and as they transition to college in fall.

The College Advisor will also offer guidance in and lead school programs on admissions testing, applications and essays, college visits and interviews, financial aid/scholarship opportunities, and transition to college life.

The College Advisor will also work to develop partnerships with colleges and universities, other college advising professionals, and scholarship providers to drive Mastery students’ success.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Use creativity to establish and maintain a college-completion culture within the high school, focusing intentionally on promoting grade-appropriate college exploration.
Engage Mastery seniors in a comprehensive college application, financial aid and scholarship application processes in order to meet aggressive college admissions goals for the senior class and alumni.
Support seniors in transition-planning through the completion of Senior Project
Teach Senior Seminar courses (4 cohorts/2x per week).
Conduct regular 1-1 meetings with students to review academic progress, plans for post-graduation and to assist students to match their abilities and interests to appropriate college choices.
Work with students and senior English teachers in developing sharp, well-written college essays.
Manage all paperwork aspects of the college admissions process including acting as the liaison between Mastery and colleges in regards to transcript requests.
Oversee ACT test-taking, and support ACT prep for juniors and seniors
Educate and counsel parents in understanding the college admission and financial aid process including evening and weekend workshops.
Set and meet aggressive student and parent participation goals in college fair programs, admission and financial aid workshops and related programs.
Coordinate robust schedule of college tours for all Mastery students and college admissions visits to campus.
Develop productive relationships and partnerships with colleges/universities, scholarship programs and other higher-education professionals. Attend professional development conferences as needed.
Develop and disseminate a profile for use by colleges and universities.
Consistently track student application progress in Naviance, including: progress in meeting their individual application, aid/scholarship, admittance, graduation and enrollment goals.
Establish and coordinate alumni network with goals of maintaining strong graduate relationships with Mastery and tracking college retention rates.
Coordinate with the AP of Special Education to develop transition support plans for students looking into school-to-career options.

Qualifications:
A deep personal belief in college access for all students and a willingness to do whatever it takes to make college a viable reality for all Mastery students.
Ability to work well in a team and to communicate effectively with students, parents, teachers, administrators, universities.
Ability to travel to for college visits and regional/national conferences, including some overnight travel
Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
Strong understanding of college admission process, financial aid, scholarships and grants, and college admissions testing.
Sharp organizational skills to document students' progress to reach aggressive college admission goals.
Knowledge of public education and charter schools highly desirable but not required.
Maintains high expectations for students and self.
Strong leadership, personal initiative and problem-solving skills.
A relentless drive to provide the highest quality education for all students.

Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) with five years urban education experience is desired
Demonstrated performance to surpass aggressive and measurable goals in urban schools.
Experience in college counseling at the secondary level and/or significant high-school teaching experience.
PA Specialist-Secondary Counselor certificate a plus.
Strong administrative background including: detailed data management, communication, and marketing skills.

Physical Requirements:
Standing, walking, sitting for long periods of time, speak loudly and clearly, seeing and hearing things both near and far away, stooping, kneeling, fine finger and hand manipulation in use of a computer, chalkboard, dry erase board or projector, repetitive hand and arm motion
