Full Job Description
The American Red Cross is seeking individuals interested in emergency management, disaster relief, and/or public health to join the Illinois Disaster Corps team! Members serve 1,700 hours over 11 months (38-40 hours per week) at Red Cross offices in Chicago, Moline, Springfield, Peoria, Bloomington, Romeoville, Quincy, and Rockford. During steady-state operations, members perform duties as community outreach liaisons and emergency preparedness educators, teaching Red Cross health, safety, and preparedness classes to youth and adults in disaster vulnerable areas. Members also serve as caseworkers, assisting individuals in the recovery process post-disaster. During disaster operations, members serve alongside Red Cross staff and volunteers as mass care providers and caseworkers to give immediate disaster relief services to communities in the event of local, state, or national disasters. When requested by the State of Illinois, members will set up and operate a volunteer reception center and donations management facility. In partnership with local and state government entities, non-profit organizations, and other community-based organizations, Illinois Disaster Corps members will enable local volunteers to help their own communities recover after a disaster. Furthermore, due to the ever-changing nature of the disaster relief environment, members must be well-suited and willing to perform both in-person and digital-based service in support of various Red Cross disaster response operation needs. Note: Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis, with priority given to applicants applying earlier in the recruitment cycle.
