This role will support the engineering of systems for a variety of projects while working closely with clients, client reps, architects and MEP engineers in creating designs for all kind of spaces including Critical Facilities, Corporate Interiors, Sports & Entertainment, Healthcare Facilities, Airports and educational facilities throughout the country.

Structured Cabling Systems Engineer / Designer

Job Responsibilities

As a structured cabling systems engineer / designer you will support the design efforts on a wide range of projects. You will work closely with senior and supervising engineers to develop everything from basis of designs through construction documents, including creating design criteria, performing calculations and laying out highly technical IT spaces. Individuals in this position must demonstrate the ability to progress from basic design work assignments to more complicated and involved projects working in conjunction with a technical team. This role will partner with our engineering teams in the development of construction documents for the procurement and installation of IT systems; including CAD and Revit drawings and book specifications.

Additional Responsibilities:
Represent Syska Hennessy Group and work in close contact with and effectively interact with the internal design team as well as external clients and consultants, when necessary (including owners, builders, developers, program managers, architects, vendors, etc.)
Create basic designs under the direction of the senior engineer and/or senior designer, develop specifications, system narratives and system layouts for a variety of projects and project sizes
Utilize industry technical standards and best practices
Assist with QA/QC (Quality Assurance/Quality Control) review on structured cabling projects led by other engineers
Assist with bid analysis and leveling activities
Coordinate with the designs of other trades (architectural and engineering / internal and external) and ensure completeness of the work
Perform construction administration and field investigation tasks for assigned projects including conducting field inspections and subsequent detailed inspection reports
Assist the senior engineer / senior designer in processing RFI's, Change Orders, Bulletins, and Addenda
Conducts field inspections to determine existing conditions and to coordinate new work
Assist Senior Engineer in preparation of due diligence, feasibility, gap analysis and other technical reports and drawings
Oversee testing and commissioning activities by third parties

Job Requirements

Bachelor Degree from accredited university in Engineering or Technical discipline or equivalent relevant work experience
4 to 7 years of design experience in a variety of markets including critical facilities (data centers, call centers, trading floors, etc.), healthcare, aviation, sports and entertainment, corporate interiors, and educational facilities
Proficiency in written and verbal communication and organizational skills
General knowledge of active network systems
Experience with other technology systems such as audiovisual and security, a plus
Proficiency in AutoCAD, required.
Experience in Revit, preferred
Certification such as RCDD, PE, PSP, or CTS, a plus
