Position Summary
Perform a variety of duties to support the Department of Campus Recreation Activity Class program. Responsible for conducting specialized classes in a dynamic, safe, and constructive manner; maintain a high level of motivation and control in classes while exhibiting friendly, kind, energetic, outgoing and enthusiastic qualities.

Instructors must perform within training standards and experience level, and/or Code of Ethics and demonstrate a professional appearance and demeanor both on and off campus that favorably represents the University of Arizona and the department of Campus Recreation. Instructors are responsible for coverage of scheduled classes. Canceled classes must be made-up.

Duties & Responsibilities
Attend staff/instructor meetings and trainings
Model department values and expectations
Design and implement classes for groups of participants based on a specialized discipline in the areas of martial arts, dance, mind/body, sports, musical instruments, or another special discipline as needed. May include family and/or youth activities
Demonstrate and teach safe activities within a safe environment including safe interaction between participants
Be prepared for EVERY class with appropriate format lesson plans and arrive at least 10 minutes prior to class
Confirm class attendees are registered for class and appear on the roster; inform participants in regards to canceled or make-up classes
Special projects as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Excellent customer service skills
Detail oriented and self-motivated
Knowledge of facilitating specialty or activity classes
Personal fitness level which enables the employee to perform activity without risk to her/himself or risk to the participant
Early morning, evening and weekend availability; flexible scheduling and break availability
Minimum Qualifications
  • Instructors may be required to audition for the hiring supervisor and/or selected committee; exceptions may apply.
The successful incumbent is required to have the following certifications and training:

Valid CPR-PR/AED and First Aid Certification from an approved provider (American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or American Safety and Health Institute) are required within 30 days of hire; Employees are required to obtain these certifications at their own expense. Campus Recreation offers a discount on certification classes for eligible employees. Other certifications may be considered. Check with your supervisor prior to making arrangements to obtain these certifications.
  • All Department of Campus Recreation employees are required to complete blood borne pathogen training within 45 days of hire and renew on an annual basis.
  • Complete New Employee training which includes but not limited to Emergency Action Plan, Nondiscrimination and Anti-harassment Policy training, All-Employee Security (Computer) Awareness, and Online Driver Registration & Golf Cart (if authorized)
Arizona Board of Regents Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND one year of instructional or subject work experience; OR, five years of progressively responsible instructional or subject work experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.
