DPCS STATEMENT OF FAITH
1. Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father, lived a sinless human life, and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all men by dying on the cross. He arose from the dead after three days, demonstrating His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven 40 days later and will return to earth to reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Matthew 1:22-23;
Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5 & 14:10-30; Hebrews 4:14-15; 1 Cor. 15:3-4; Romans 1:3-4; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Tim. 6:14-15.
2. Salvation is a gift from God to man. Man can never make up for his sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ, as God’s offering for forgiveness, can a man be saved. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith. Romans
6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9; John 14:6 & 1:12, Galatians 3:26; Romans 5:1.
3. The Holy Spirit is equal to the Father and the Son of God. He is present in the world to make man aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, an understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. The Christian seeks to live under His control daily. 2 Cor. 3:17;
John 16:7-13 & 14:16-17; Acts 1:8; 1 Cor. 2:12 & 3:16; Ephesians 1:13; Galatians 5:25;
Ephesians 5:18.
In addition, all Christians may also be filled with the Holy Spirit in an experience different from and following salvation. Called the “Baptism of the Holy Spirit,” it is a special infusion of God’s power to better enable the believer to spread the gospel and to live the full, faithful life God has promised and expects. The Scriptures reveal this as the normal experience for Christians and teach that every believer should earnestly seek and expect this baptism. Acts 1:5, 2:4 & 39, 5:32, &19:1-7.
4. The Bible is God’s Word to all men. The Bible was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. 2 Tim. 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21; 2 Tim. 1:13; Psalm 119:105, 160, & 12:6; Proverbs 30:5.
5. The Gifts and Fruit of the Spirit. We believe that the Holy Spirit gives ministry gifts to believers; in other words, the Holy Spirit gives people special abilities for ministry. These gifts will build up groups of believers and help them mature in the Christian faith. Further, Spirit-filled believers should show the spiritual “fruit” that has been given to them: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, self-control. Romans 12:6-8; Galatians 5:22-25, 1 Corinthians 12:1-11 & 31.
6. We believe in the importance of the local church and that it is an assembly of born-again believers united in organization to practice New Testament ordinances, to meet for worship, prayer, fellowship, education, and a united testimony, and to actively engage in carrying out the Great Commission. Matt. 16:18; Acts 13:1-3; 15:4; 1 Cor. 11:2; Matt. 28:19-20
7. We believe that tithing (giving 10 percent of earnings) and offerings (amounts determined by the individuals) are God’s instruments to carry on His ministry, spread the gospel, and release personal blessing. Malachi 3:10; 1Corinth. 16: 1, 2
8. We believe that the only legitimate marriage is the joining of one man and one woman. (Gen.2:24; Rom. 7:2; 1 Corinth. 7:10; Eph. 5:22-23) We believe that any forms of bodily contact for the purpose of satisfying sexual desires between anyone other than one man and one woman in marriage are immoral, are forbidden by God, and are sinful perversions of God's gift of sex. Further, we believe that God disapproves of immorality and forbids any attempt to alter one's gender by surgery or appearance. Gen. 2:24; Gen. 19:5, 13; Gen. 26:8-9; Lev. 18:1-30; Rom. 1: 26-29; 1Corinth. 5:1; 6:9; 1Thess. 4:1-8; Heb. 13:4
9. We believe that children are a heritage of the Lord, that God has given parents the responsibility to rear their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, and that God requires parents and the church to diligently teach children the Word of God and provide them a Christian education consistent in all respects with the beliefs and teaching of our faith. Deut. 6:6 -7; Pro. 22:6; Pro.19:27; Eph. 6:4
