Job Summary

Nortek Air Solutions is seeking a highly motivated R&D Mechanical Engineer - Thermal Focus to join the Innovation Team at our Oklahoma facilities. As a member of the Innovation team, you will be an integral member of a true multi-disciplinary, cross-functional team dedicated to bringing pioneering technologies to market through research, development, prototyping, and testing centered within our nationally recognized laboratories. With a focus on acoustics, vibrations, aerodynamics, energy efficiency, controls, electronics, thermal design, and mechanical systems, our team works not only with other Nortek facilities and employees but also with a wide range of customers, suppliers, distributors, and strategic partners. The successful candidate will take an active role in modeling, prototyping, evaluating, testing, and collaborating with others to explore and demonstrate solutions and concepts critical to the future of our business. Additionally, the successful candidate will also participate in hands-on testing of custom equipment designed to meet the stringent requirements of our customers and high-end clients in our world class R&D facilities.

Core Responsibilities

The successful candidate will work within a team environment to create innovative technologies and solutions with a focus on thermal engineering related to commercial and industrial HVAC systems. Immediate tasks may include thermal analysis of structural systems, evaluation and integration of existing thermal and refrigeration technologies into new products, and working within a team studying new and emerging heat transfer and refrigeration technologies for a wide variety of custom commercial and industrial HVAC applications.

Experience with laboratory equipment
Good documentation, project management, and organization skills
Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering
Qualifications We Desire

Experience with HVAC and/or refrigeration system design
Experience with thermal testing
Experience with finding root cause of problems
Familiarity with CFD / FEA – ANSYS Simulations
Proficient with numerical analysis and Python
Familiarity with HVAC industry test standards and societies
Familiarity with thermal instrumentation and laboratory equipment

Able to lift 25 pounds
Able to sit or stand for long periods
Able to work safely in a test lab environment
Able to analyze and solve technical problems quickly and effectively
Able to interact with employees and customers effectively and courteously
Able to plan, prioritize, and coordinate multiple activities
Able to use basic hand and test tools

BSME from an accredited university.
5+ years of engineering work experience, HVAC highly preferred.
AutoCAD 3D, Pro-E, or SolidWorks skills.
Self-starter and must be able to work cross-functionally.
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

P.E certification a plus.
MSME is a plus.
