Manual work in the operation of a light motor vehicle to transport veterans to VA hospitals. Responsible for safe and efficient operation of a light motor vehicle in daily transporting of veterans to and from various activities and/or appointments. May be required to participate in training programs as appropriate, to insure safety of vehicle and/or veterans. Supervision is received from administrative superior and assignments are made in form of specific schedules. Work is subject to review through observation of results and safety of equipment operation. Drug and alcohol test is required for this position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operates a light motor vehicle such as a passenger car or van to transport veterans.
Assists veterans in entering/exiting vehicle as necessary to insure safety.
Performs normal operator maintenance and safety checks of vehicle such as tire pressure, cleanliness of vehicle and proper workings of signals, horn, etc.
Completes reports as necessary on number of veterans served per day and geographical locations served.
Maintains records for servicing and inspection of vehicle.
As required, transports light supplies to program locations.
Logs vehicle mileage daily.
Participates in training as appropriate.
Performs related duties as required.
Participate in a yearly physical and driving test required by the Dept. of Veteran Affairs.
Ability to operate an automobile safely and skillfully.
Ability to establish effective relationships with veterans.
Ability to understand and carry our written instructions.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

High school diploma or equivalent.
Must possess and maintain a valid operator's license.No previous suspension of driver’s license within last ten years.
One year of employment that required operation of a motor vehicle as a regular duty or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
Knowledge of the geographical area served.
Knowledge of Pennsylvania traffic laws.
Knowledge of the principles of operation of automotive equipment sufficient to detect defective operation.
