Horizon Behavioral Health is seeking a Psychiatrist to join our Child Psychiatric Services Portfolio. Required Education and Experience:
Licensure as a Board Certified General and Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist with minimum education as determined and required by the Virginia licensing board (Doctor of Medicine).
A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience providing psychiatric services to children.
Some supervisory experience preferred.

Position Summary:
The Psychiatrist - Child Services will provide psychiatric evaluations and medication management for child consumer population. They will create a plan of care and treatment, collaborating with other programs and portfolios as needed to ensure effective and efficient service delivery to those receiving services. Role may involve supervision of Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners and/or other Psychiatrists.

Position Overview:
This position will work in a clinical environment reporting to the Director of Child Psychiatric Services, and will be responsible for the following:

PSYCHIATRIC SERVICES: Provides direct clinical services to clients; Provides psychiatric evaluations, consultations, and medication management services to clients; Maintains active licensure or certification; meets requirements in accordance with Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services regulations.
LEADERSHIP: Participates in Horizon Behavioral Health initiatives.
Fosters collaborative relationships with employees at every level of the organization; promoting unity and one Horizon; Participates in Quality Improvement Committee and Peer review activities requiring medical review as assigned; Provides consultation for all mental health, Intellectual disability, and substance abuse programs; Provides consultation as a part of the multidisciplinary team; Provides medical communication with nurses; Prepares accurate and confidential reports and records including medication reviews, progress notes, discharge summary; Participates in both internal and external committee meetings as assigned and/or as assigned; Assist with coverage in the absence of other medical providers; Serves as a Horizon representative on behalf of the program and participates in meetings and presentations as requested; Serves as a subject matter expert and offers ideas, suggestions, and different options to help Horizon best serve the community.
DOCUMENTATION: Completes documentation requirements in a timely manner and within required guidelines.
Prepares accurate and confidential reports and records, including medication reviews, progress notes, discharge summaries, psychiatric evaluations, and informed consent; Provides feedback and advises when appropriate concerning proficiency of clinical workers upon the request of the CEO, CCO and/or Medical Director.
MISCELLANEOUS RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for familiarizing self with training requirements as assigned on Horizon Learning Management System and completing within assigned deadlines. Responsible to access Horizon's LMS and accept individual responsibility to complete all trainings on time; Completes other duties and projects as assigned; Committee/Meeting participation: Actively participates, solution-oriented, and focuses on constructive problem solving, as assigned; This list of essential functions is not intended to be exhaustive. Related Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of community mental health and public health in order to provide advocacy and enhance an individual’s treatment and access to community resources;
Knowledge of the principles, procedures, techniques, trends, and literature related to mental health, intellectual disabilities and substance abuse;
Skill to analyze situations accurately and develop appropriate responses or techniques;
Skill to communicate effectively in order to facilitate treatment and relay information to others as part of an interdisciplinary team;
Ability to promote positive, collaborative, and professional working relations among co-workers and representatives in the community;
Ability to drive and must possess a valid driver’s license. May be called upon to travel to any Horizon worksite; transport clients, provide services to client @other locations. Regular attendance at trainings and Horizon meetings may require travel to a variety of Horizon sites;
Ability to participate in and successfully pass behavioral intervention training; includes both verbal de-escalation skills and physical skills techniques to be utilized with consumers as needed.
