Designer - Civil/Structural

Our Denver, Colorado, office is seeking a Civil/Structural Designer for industrial projects in our business sectors. The Civil/Structural Designer works closely with our professional engineers to design and document elements such as complex equipment foundations, and steel framed process structures, buildings, and minor sitework. The Civil/Structural Designer can be engaged in designs for renovations of industrial facilities, support of complex equipment, new structures, studies, client site support, construction phase support, and a wide variety of other tasks that help our clients to be more successful. This role may work independently on design projects but usually takes direction from an engineer or a senior designer.

Essential Job Functions

Apply structural and civil engineering fundamentals to prepare design documents under the supervision of engineers and senior design staff.
Work cooperatively with others to produce a coordinated set of design documents (drawings, lists, spreadsheets, etc.) conforming to project standards.
Acquire and present accurate dimensional field data.
Review vendor submittals and equipment drawings.
Review work of others for design integrity, completeness, accuracy, clarity and quality.
Actively pursue continuous improvement and efficient work techniques.
Regular and reliable attendance.
Travel to client locations and/or accept client site assignments when required.
Ability to pass Client badging and screening processes.
Position Requirements
Knowledge & Skills

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially with other disciplines about technical topics.
Organize own workflow to consistently meet deadlines and complete tasks with accuracy and strong attention to detail.
Proficient with structural and civil design techniques including proper layout and detailing conventions; properly coordinate drawing presentation with calculation and specification data.
Proficient with MSOffice and AutoCAD. Skill with Civil 3D, CADWorx, Revit, and SketchUp is desirable.

Educational & Work Experience

Associate degree or technology certificate, and two years of structural design or detailing experience; or five years of structural design or detailing experience.

Work is performed mostly in office settings. Some outdoor work is required in the inspection of various land use developments, construction sites or public works facilities. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate drafting instruments, computers and various pieces of office equipment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk, use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk or hear, and smell.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Travel can be required.
