Summary of Position:
The Registered Nurse must show an uncompromising commitment to providing the highest quality of patient care by being an integral part of the clinical team. The Registered Nurse provides general nursing care to patients in the clinic/ physician’s office by performing the following duties to the full level of their licensure in accordance with NYS guidelines as outlined below.

Endoscopy Charge Nurse: In addition to having a strong clinical background in endoscopy (3+ years minimum), individuals in this role are required to perform such duties as delegating nursing assignments, preparing schedules, overseeing admissions and discharges, and fostering an environment where an excellent patient experience is achieved. In addition to these managerial tasks, charge nurses also will carry a patient load depending on departmental needs.

Performance Requirements:
Provide exceptional service and/or care to all patients, customers and team members using C-I-Care.
Plans, directs and evaluates total nursing care.
Work alongside and offer assistance to medical assistants (MAs) and licensed practical nurses (LPNs)
Explains procedures and treatments to patient to gain cooperation, understanding, and reduce apprehension.
Accurately and promptly implements physician’s orders.
Maintains the standards of accurate and complete recording and reporting.
Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques.
Prepares equipment and aids Physician during treatment and examination of patient.
Maintains awareness of comfort and safety needs of patient.
Observes patient, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies supervisor or physician of patient's condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents.
Takes temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and other vital signs to detect deviations from normal and assess condition of patient.
Responds to life saving situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol.
Initiates a patient education plan according to the individualized needs of the patient, as prescribed by physician and/or policy including patient and family instruction.
Resourceful and calm in emergencies.
Participates in in-service training for personnel.
Performs laboratory test procedures within established criteria. Including but not limited to:
Performing Quality controls as per NYS guidelines.
Maintaining logs with accurate documentation.
Follow NY state guidelines for CLIA waived testing.
Adheres to safety and scientifically accepted infection control practices and standards. Including but not limited to:
Follows handwashing protocols.
Practices aseptic techniques.
Utilizes protective barriers.
Utilizes personal protective equipment, e.g. gloves, lab coats.
Maintains proper disposal of hazardous materials.
Demonstrates knowledge of role in emergency disaster.
Adheres to OSHA Blood Born Pathogen Standard.
They are to be courteous to the patient at all times, incorporating ICARE into all patient interactions.
Follows National Patient Safety Goals, using two patient identifiers at all times.
May rotate among various clinical services as needed.
May assist the physician during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to promote optimal patient outcomes by team collaboration and as well as pre/ post procedural care.
Participates in department quality improvement activities.
Supports and enforces infection-control policies and procedures.
Communicates effectively with others for continuity of care.
Performs diagnostic studies as ordered by a physician.
Perform other duties as required, including job responsibilities for MAs and LPNs.

Qualifications:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (required) Licensure, Certification, or Registration
Current registration with New York State Board of Nursing as a Registered Professional Nurse (RN)
Basic Life Support (BLS)
ACLS Certification

Knowledge, Skills, and abilities:
Ability to work as a Team player within a unit
Knowledgeable of all Endoscopy equipment and procedures
Administer infusions skillfully and evaluate pharmacological and therapeutic treatment plans with the attending physician
Serve as a mentor for Nurses and Medical Technicians
Maintains AAAASF standards
Ability to communicate effectively.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form.
Ability to learn and adapt.
Ability to direct others.
Knowledge of EMR, Word Processing software and other specialized software for healthcare industry.
Ability to function as an effective team member. Works well alongside physicians and other ancillary staff.
