The Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced technical professional to work in the Network Engineering Enterprise Systems Engineering (ESE) group within the Information Technology (IT) Department. The successful candidate will work in a technically diverse and dynamic global environment on a variety of multi-classification networks.

Some duties and responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

Ensure day-to-day operation and high availability of Wide Area Networks that span redundant data centers and more than 100 geographically separated sites worldwide.

Ensure day-to-day operation of remote site LAN networks.

Work with technicians and engineers in the field to implement, optimize, monitor and troubleshoot network connectivity and traffic flow utilizing a multitude of network management and monitoring tools.

Monitor and respond to network outages and service requests to troubleshoot and remediate network issues.

Interface with local and remote site Network Engineers and System Administration teams to design network implementations, optimize traffic flow and troubleshoot server, client and application connectivity problems.

Install, configure, monitor and maintain a Cisco secure network infrastructure requiring high availability.

Support the procurement, installation, maintenance and support of all current and future network expansions and system implementations.

Maintain detailed network configuration documentation and facilitate changes in documentation and network monitoring as devices are added and retired from the network

Requirements

Advanced:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of four years of relevant experience; or
Master's degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two years of relevant experience

Senior:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of six years of relevant experience; or
Master's degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of four years of relevant experience

All Candidates:
Demonstrated ability to communicate complex network concepts and issues to both technical and nontechnical audiences
Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and problem solve

Demonstrated strong desire to discover the root cause of complex problems and communicate them effectively across IT disciplines and to IT and Line of Business Management

Demonstrated technical or academic leadership experience

Preferred Skills
BS and/or MS in Engineering, Science, Computer Engineering, Information Science, Management Information Systems or related field from an accredited college or university with required years of experience above
Cisco CCNA/CCNP/CCIE strongly preferred
Ability to configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Cisco LAN and WAN network and technologies including but not limited to Cisco Catalyst Series (IOS) 2900, 3500, 3800, 4500 and 6500 platforms

Ability to configure, maintain and troubleshoot Cisco WAN networks and technologies including but not limited to Cisco ASR, 3900, 2900 and 1900 Series ISR G2 Router platforms

Experience with configuration and deployment of Cisco ASA and Fortinet Firewall platforms

Experience working with configuration, implementation and troubleshooting of: Virtual Local Area Networks (VLAN); Virtual Routing and Forwarding (VRF) implementations; Access Control Lists (ACLs) and/or firewall technologies; Dynamic Multipoint Virtual Private Network (DMVPN) tunneling; Quality of Service (QoS) markings; and various routing protocols, especially Open Shortest Path First (OSPF), Enhanced Interior Gateway Protocol (EIGRP), and Border Gateway Protocol (BGP)

Demonstrated ability to identify and troubleshoot network problems on a LAN or WAN

Network monitoring and management experience using SNMP protocol and various Enterprise monitoring suites (i.e. SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor (NPM))

Experience with network management and monitoring tools such as: WireShark, NetQoS, StatSeeker, NetScout, etc.

Familiarity and/or experience working with General Dynamics Taclane network encryptors

Cisco UCS Blade technology experience or familiarity

Security Clearance - Department of Energy
