The Department of Economic Security is seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our team as an Assistant Deputy Director of Programs. This position will perform work of considerable difficulty to ensure that the program infrastructure of DES is sufficient to support the agency initiatives. The Assistant Deputy Director will assume responsibility for the administration of the diverse day-to-day programmatic activities of assigned Program Divisions, while providing leadership, direction and support. This position will work with Division Executive Leadership to design long-range strategic plans, design and implement business strategies and establish organizational policies and procedures. Additionally, the Assistant Deputy Director will analyze organizational systems, policies and procedures, recommend changes and oversee the implementation of those changes.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of legislative process and procedures and State government
Knowledge of federal and state rules and regulations pertaining to health and human service programs
Knowledge of data analysis and performance/operation metrics
Knowledge of budget development and fiscal management
Knowledge of project management
Skill in strategic planning and business development
Skill in verbal and written communication, to include public speaking
Skill in developing and maintaining effective working relationships
Skill in developing comprehensive reports

Licenses and Certifications:
If the position is required to drive on state business, the position will require the possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate tot the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12).

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required in Business Administration, Public Administration, Health Care Administration or similar degree field. Master's degree preferred
Eight (8) years of work experience in operational management or strategic management preferred
A successful track record of partnering with senior leadership (or equivalent) to help integrate mission, vision and values into the organization preferred
Successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify), applicable to all newly hired state employe
Successfully pass background and reference checks; employment is contingent upon completion of the above-mentioned process and the agency’s ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions.
