Develop innovative and cost-effective products on time to meet Horizon Global medium and long term business objectives.
Define, design, validate and release new products or applications that can meet customer expectations efficiently with detailed material, interface and function requirements.
Develop new products from design concept using CAE tools in a SolidWorks environment.
Gather all pertinent information for product design from inspection or online sources interfacing with OEM components and vehicles.
Maintain engineering records pertaining to material masters, bills of material, product drawings and system requirements for all releases and changes in the product.
Resolve design issues, manufactured or sourced product, evaluate components and assemblies as needed.
Work independently in the pursuit of APQP deliverable (Drawings, Risk Reg., DFMEA, Load Cases, DVP, IR, Stacks, etc.).
Develop Class “A” surfacing of injection molded plastics, aluminum extrusions, developing complex 3D models.
Lead field and warranty analysis for AM field returns.
Perform Finite Element Analysis to evaluate design solutions.
Some metal fabrication (machining, welding, assembly or shop experience) may be required.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum: 4 year BSME
10+ years of hands-on mechanical experience is required (work or recreation experience equally valid).
7-10 years of experience with establishing product and design requirements for plastics, fabric, steel structures and mechanical systems.
5+ years of experience with FEA, GD&T, Stacks, DVP, DFMEA’s.
5+ years of experience in and OEM or Tier One supplier setting in the recreational, trailer or automotive products.
3-5 years of design concept experience, scope definition, FEA analysis and mechanical simulation.
Self-directed individual with the ability to resolve technical issues independently.
Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills; ability to prioritize complex range of activities.
Working knowledge of manufacturing techniques include welding, press operation, lathe, mill and hand tool assembly.
Design knowledge of forgings, steel and aluminum casting, aluminum extrusions, plastic injection molding, fasteners, fastened joints, machining, welding.
Demonstrated ability to lead project(s) to completion.
Show interest in Auto Industry, AM Recreational Cargo Carrier and Accessories Market: for trends, new vehicle introductions.
Independent CAD and FEA work experience are required.
SolidWorks expertise a plus.
Valid driver’s license is required
