We are seeking a corporate tax accountant to assist in the coordination of all aspects of federal and state income tax preparation and record-keeping for our tax team!

Summary:
Assists in the coordination of all aspects of federal and state income tax preparation and record-keeping for IRET and subsidiary entities.

Expectations:
Requires some supervision. Self-directed and self-motivated. Assists with research on complex IRC issues. Requires a high level of initiative and understanding of the big picture. Also requires the ability to adapt to changing priorities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Prepares work papers used in completing tax filings and K-1’s.
Works closely with Director of Tax and a third party tax preparer on tax filings and for consultations on special issues.
Assists with research and analyzes tax issues.
Communicates with taxing authorities as needed.
Maintains unitholder data for partners and calculates conversions from units to shares.
Assists with the coordination of and analyzes 1031 exchanges.
Responsible for ensuring accuracy of tax asset and depreciation records.
Prepares quarterly REIT tests and monitors REIT compliance.
Prepares 1099s and related reports, including the dividend allocation for NAREIT and Form 8937.
Assists with preparing communications to investors, including the capital gains dividend notice.
Prepares tax due diligence as needed.
Prepares tax provision calculations and annual analysis of uncertain tax positions for GAAP.
Prepares monthly sales tax return.
Prepares personal property tax returns.
Assists with the coordination of the payment of real estate taxes.
Maintains depreciation schedules
Corporate accounting duties as assigned.
Back up for this position is provided by the Director of Tax.

Education and/or Experience – Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Accounting required. Relevant experience and CPA preferred but not required.

Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Computer Skills – To perform this job successfully, an individual must have knowledge of Accounting software, preferably Great Plains. Must be highly proficient with spreadsheet programs such as Microsoft Excel.
