Under immediate supervision, is responsible for performing routine clerical work at the library, to include the proper shelving and sorting of library materials. Exercises no supervision.

This position is an "unclassified" position and has no disciplinary appeal rights to the Municipal Civil Service Commission. This position is likewise subject to at-will employment status and can be terminated at any time for any reason.

Work Location: Semmes, Tobin, Cody or one of 25 other library locations

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Sorts and shelves library resources in either alphabetical or numerical order.
Conducts periodic checks on all shelved materials, making sure items are in proper order.
Maintains shelved books to ensure accuracy and proper placement.
Searches for library materials which have been reserved or claimed to be returned by library users.
Arranges and straightens library furniture.
Packs, unpacks, sorts, and transports library materials.
Performs general clerical duties.
Prepares new books and materials for public use.
Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Completion of tenth grade education.

Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
Applicants selected for employment with the City of San Antonio in this position must receive satisfactory results from pre-employment drug testing and background checks. If required for the position, a physical, motor vehicle record evaluation, and additional background checks may be conducted.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Physical requirements include occasional lifting/carrying of up to 25 pounds. Subject to sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, and stooping for extended periods of time to perform the essential functions. Working conditions are primarily inside an office environment with occasional exposure to outside working conditions.

Knowledge of basic arithmetic and alphabet.
Ability to understand and follow verbal and written directions.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to accurately sort and file alphabetically and numerically.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and the general public.
Ability to perform all the physical requirements of the position.
