Experience/Skills

  • Requires 3-7 years of experience building desktop images, designing software deployment packages and troubleshooting Windows desktops. Active Management of end user devises through SCCM/Group Policy
  • DeskTop Engineering: 4 years (Required)
  • System Imaging and application packaging: 2 years (Required)
  • MS Deployment Toolkit: 2 years (Preferred)
  • SCCM: 2 years (Preferred) Team leadership: 2 years (Preferred)

Desktop Engineer will support deployment, maintenance, and troubleshooting of various technologies across all enclaves (NIPR/SIPR/JWICS) to include but not limited to Windows 10 (various builds) for multiple hardware types (Laptops, Desktops, Tablets, and VDI).

  • The desktop engineer is responsible for building new Windows 10 images, updating Windows 10 images (for new software or new MS builds) and troubleshooting application issues in compliance with DoD STIG/RMF requirements.
  • Management of the Windows client group policies are required using MS Group Policy Manager.
  • Support of the IAVM vulnerability management process (performed via MS SCCM) in support of the vulnerability management team may be required as needed based on IAVM volume or deployment issues.
  • The desktop engineer provides support to/is an extension of the customer support team (tier 2+) and is also responsible for timely resolution of service requests, incidents, and issues.
  • Service requests are managed, tracked, and updated through the enterprise ticket management system.
  • All Desktop Engineering/Automation services must conform to the latest DOD information security policies and timelines. The Desktop Engineer shall: Update and maintain the SOPs to support desktop engineering/automation
  • Provide day-to-day operations for desktop engineering/automation tasks: Provide timely service and resolution of service requests and incidents in accordance with the SLAs Image endpoints, build and maintain Windows 10 images in compliance Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIG) compliance in accordance with DOD mandates
  • Experience working with Windows 10 builds building both new images and working with in-place upgrades
  • Experience troubleshooting applications and the base Windows 10 OS on hardened systems including HBSS/HIPS and PKI (CAC/PIC) authentication
  • Experience working with Windows 10 with McAfee HIPS preferred Package new and updated applications for deployment working with the SCCM team to host and deploy the new packages
  • Troubleshoot and make recommendations to the Government for remediation of security or functionality issues in the desktop image.
  • Coordinate resolution of desktop incidents and issues with the appropriate enterprise team (e.g., CND, Data Center Operations (DCO), etc.)
  • Recommend and implement technology, knowledge management, and processes that improve the effectiveness of desktop engineering/automation
  • Identify problematic trends and patterns and recommend solutions.
  • Document desktop system configuration, network configuration, and inventory of software to be supported.
  • Working as part of a team mentoring junior members and communicating competing priorities to management
