Central State Hospital (CSH) is a 277 bed, Joint Commission accredited public psychiatric facility. The hospital serves individuals who are civilly committed and in need of treatment, and/or individuals involved in the criminal justice system who need treatment and/or pre-trial evaluation. The Rehabilitation Services Department is looking for a motivated recovery oriented Expressive Art Therapist to facilitate services with adults 18 to 64 years of age who have serious mental illness, addiction issues, physical and intellectual deficits and who have experienced trauma. To plan and facilitate day, evening, weekend ,and holiday therapeutic interventions that are functionally based, promote hope and recovery, and that assist our client's return to his/her highest level of functioning in order to be successful in the community. To document on client's attendance and progress according to hospital policy and departmental policy . To serve as an active member of the Interdisciplinary treatment team and provide information regarding client's response to treatment and revise accordingly based on current functional level.
Master's Degree from an accredited School in Psychology with concentration in Art Therapy or MA in Art Therapy and certification by the Art Therapy Credentials Board; or, graduation from an ADTA Approved Graduate Program that meets educational requirement for the Registered Dance/Movement Therapy (R-DMT) credential/or a masters degree (or higher) from an accredited institution of higher learning in combination with general training, specific dance/movement therapy coursework, fieldwork and an internship as approved by the ADTA and Dance/Movement Therapy Certification Board and/or eligibility for certification by the American Dance Therapy Association. Work/internship experience dealing with adult mental illness, intellectual deficits, and complex medical needs. Must have a valid Virginia driver's license. Working irregular work week and hours when necessary and awareness of safety and security procedures.
Experience working in an inpatient psycho-social rehabilitative setting. Skilled in the ability to develop, plan, document, and carryout expressive art therapy groups using a multi-modalities approach based on evidence based treatment and trauma informed strategies that promote recovery and improved functional outcomes.
