Position: NAO Youth Advocate
Reports to: NAO Supervisor
The NAO Youth Advocate works in collaboration with You Gotta Believe (YGB) Family Recruiters to help find families for older youth in care. Youth Advocates represent YGB as the voice of youth in all facets of our organization; outreach, training, advocacy, and post-services support. The Youth Advocate's report to The NAO Youth Advocate Supervisor.
Youth Advocate may be out stationed at You Gotta Believe’s partner agencies, to work intensively with referred yout. Youth Advocates assist recruiters in the process of obtaining information to help efforts in connecting youth to family. Youth Advocates are involved in the development of workshop presentations to conduct them for youth, child welfare professionals and parents. The Youth Advocates also take part in the recruitment and retention efforts with current foster adoptive parents. Youth Advocates help to educate the general public about YGB’s mission at various forums and share about what life in foster care is like and what people can do to help youth. Youth Advocates participate in YGB Model Approach to Partners in Parenting (MAPP) classes and outreach related to helping families and youth get connected. Youth Advocates also provide supports to youth matched and/or living with YGB families.
Youth Advocates partake in opportunities for professional development while working at You Gotta Believe to enhance their professional knowledge and skill-set.
Youth Advocates work collaboratively with all You Gotta Believe staff, including the NAO Supervisor and Director and show commitment to representing YGB with enthusiasm, positivity, honesty, in carrying out our organizations’ values and mission with partner agencies and the general community.
Develop relationships with partner agency referred youth(s) to help “open them up” to family through engagement in conversations and concrete activities
Assist with finding families for older youth in care
Assist with supporting youth with families
Attend and participate in MAPP classes
Assist in planning YGB Matching events
Assist in creating workshops for all YGB partner agencies
Participate in the co-facilitation of YGB Trainings (with youth, workers, parents, etc.)
May conduct out of town workshops and trainings
Complete and submit workshop presentation feedback evaluations to the YGB coordinator
Enter information into Salesforce database in timely manner
High School Diploma or GED
Demonstrated effectiveness working with youth
Experience with Excel, PowerPoint and desktop publishing software, designing flyers, brochures, and using visuals and graphic art is very helpful
Extensive experience managing one's own schedule and multi-tasking
Personal experience with the Foster Care Sytem
Personal experience with moral adoption, Legal Adoption or present active committed to support person in their life.
A strong commitment to the mission and values of You Gotta Believe
Minimum 1 year of related work experience working with older youth in foster care, child welfare, or as an alumni

Physical Requirements of the Job
Ability to perform a variety of duties
Able to use public transportation for inner city travel to locations
Standing for two hours or more to conduct workshops, trainings, etc.

Work Environment. You Gotta Believe offers a creative and relatively quiet community space. There is flexibility in scheduling both work hours and location, as project needs demand. Work space differs from day-to-day, requiring flexibility and adaptability.
