Job Description
The Health & Safety Specialist will assist in the creation and development of health and safety improvement initiatives. This role will contribute to the company-wide culture of safety, injury prevention and risk mitigation strategies. Integral components in this proactive process will involve identifying opportunities, strategies, and a centralized approach to minimize hazards and reduce incident activity. This will be accomplished through analyzing claim data, collaborating with organizational department team members, conducting risk assessments, behavior modification program development, and creating safety resources and training. The work is performed under the supervision and support of the risk manager.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:

Develop and implement organizational safety policies, procedures, and protocols in alignment with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.

Serve as a subject matter expert on health and safety policies, protocols and procedures, with an emphasis on employee health and safety.

Implement and deliver safety and risk mitigation initiatives, in partnership with operations and human resources, by utilizing data-driven approaches and practices.

Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to monitor employee safety performance and drive continuous improvement efforts for measuring safety success. Monitor and report on these metrics.

Analyze and interpret claim data to identify frequency and severity trends, patterns and other areas of focus.

Coordinate with operations management in the investigation of workplace injuries, motor vehicle collisions, as appropriate to identify root causes, potential hazards and loss trends in an effort to reduce recurrence.

Participate in regular safety committee meetings with operational management and frontline employees across all operating companies.

Conduct employee health & safety risk assessments, where applicable.

Participate in organizational claim reviews, both internal and external.

Identify potential employee safety related regulatory non-compliance issues.

Provide regular safety and risk mitigation training bulletins to influence the reduction of incidents occurring with staff and persons served.

Serve as the point of contact to collaborate with safety and risk professionals outside the organization to design and implement risk mitigation programs and services.

Manage and maintain communications and resources on multiple platforms to effectively increase health, safety and risk mitigation awareness and knowledge across the organization.
Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree or 5 years of progressive experience in the areas of health & safety, risk management, or quality assurance experience preferred

Experience with hospital, consumer care setting, or human services business preferred

Nationally recognized safety, environmental, and health certifications preferred
Additional Information

Comprehensive knowledge and experience with workplace safety and health, including OSHA, injury prevention strategies, safety and health policies, procedures and industry best practices.
