Health System Specialist (SPS/RME)

Duties Include but are not limited to:
Incumbent will take a network leadership role on the standardization pertaining to the technical supply functions of collection, decontamination, processing, packaging, sterilization and distribution of all reusable patient care supplies, instruments and equipment in the Decontamination, Sterile Preparation, and Equipment Distribution sections of SPS.
Coordination with the Network Clinical Manager, Network Patient Safety Officer, Network Compliance Officer, Network Quality Management Officer, Network Human Resources Officer and other key staff within the network.
Responsible for maintaining and enhancing an efficient, effective and standardized organizational SPS structure.
Implementing ways to enhance production, promote team building, and improve business practices.
Contacts within the organization at network level are typically with higher-level managers to include the Network Director, Deputy Network Director, and Chief Medical Officer, and including program managers and service chiefs, such as the Chief Logistics Officer, Compliance Officer, Quality Manager, Patient Safety Manager, and other service chiefs and Program Managers.
Contacts at the facility level include direct interaction with the Medical Center Director, the Associate Director for Operations, and the Associate Director for Patient Care Services (ADPCS), service chiefs in every specialty, in addition to doctors, hospital technicians, technical representatives, and service representatives.
At the national level, contacts will include senior officials with the Central Office, the Infectious Disease Program Office, and others.
The position may be called upon to provide direct assistance and testimony in preparation for congressional hearings.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-12 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-11. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.

This position includes a Selective Placement Factor (SPF) (skill, knowledge, ability or other worker characteristic basic to- and essential for- satisfactory performance of the job). Selective Placement Factors are prerequisite to appointment and represent minimum requirements for this position. Applicants who do not meet this requirement are ineligible for further consideration. The SPF for this position is experience in Sterile Processing Systems/Reusable Medical Equipment (SPS/RME).

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:

Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-11 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:administrative work, analyzing, developing, evaluating or promoting improvements in policies, plans, methods, procedures, systems, develops SOP and performance standards. Includes communication and working relationships with facilities and Network Directors.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary, although some slight physical effort may be required.
