As a National Teaching Fellow you will be performing an extraordinary act of citizenship, helping the nation to address one of its greatest challenges; educating our youth in ways that promote self belief, college readiness and the skills needed to achieve their dreams.

Citizen Schools seeks future educators in San Jose to join the 2018 - 2020 cohort of the National Teaching Fellowship.

Citizen Schools extends the learning day in public schools and staffs its programs with passionate, committed leaders, educators, and volunteers to support the entire school community . Students get more time for academic support, exposure to college and career pathways, and new ways to discover and achieve their dreams.

Each semester, students participate in apprenticeships : immersive hands-on learning experiences in real-life subjects taught by volunteer professionals from the surrounding community. Students get to learn from and build relationships with individuals and groups from tech, finance, robotics, government, education, and so many more booming industries!

Teaching Fellows are the backbone of the Citizen Schools program :

  • Teach and nurture a team of students as they navigate the difficult middle school years
  • Work alongside the partner school's teachers and staff to deeply engage students in their education
  • Serve as instructional coach for volunteer Citizen Teachers in twice-weekly apprenticeships
  • Develop crucial professional skills in key areas, including teaching and project management

National Teaching Fellows receive an annual living stipend of $23,550 pre- tax, paid out in bi-weekly installments.

You will also be eligible to receive:
