The Field TransportationSupervisoris responsible for supervising the delivery services associates responsible for the delivery of customer packages and the goal of the team is to maintain high service levels at the lowest possible cost consistent with the service provided. This position works directly with management to provide effective delivery service while responding to the needs of the customer and may have responsibility for a crossdock operation
Assign private fleet delivery specialists to delivery routes daily.
Adjust routes on a daily basis to balance delivery volume, provide driver efficiency in reaction to customer service changes, and meet delivery time commitments.
Maintain and provide routing and carrier lay down changes. May maintain customer, carrier, and zip code tables.
Address and resolve customer delivery service issues.
Review routes periodically to determine the most cost-effective routing structure and make recommendations to Delivery Services Manager.
Prepare delivery specialist accident reports and accident reviews.
Develop customer delivery expectation files and delivery route books.
Ensure vehicle inspection reports are completed on a daily basis.
May oversee vehicle maintenance performed by the leasing company or third-party sources.
Secure additional vehicle support equipment when needed (e.g. lease of a vehicle if in-fleet truck breaks down)
May review, verify, and authorize delivery related expense invoices for payment.
Manage staff of delivery specialists and lead daily productivity along with conducting performance reviews, training, maintain vacation scheduling, and attendance monitoring.
Monitor driver and operational compliance of state, federal, department of transportation regulations and company safety policies, and standards.
Understand dashboard metrics related to delivery and actions in supporting and achieving established goals.
This position requires knowledge of delivery scheduling and routing as well as quantitative methods acquired through formal education or 1 - 2 years on-the-job application. Equivalent to an Associate's degree.
Minimum 3 years experience in transportation within a small package delivery environment.
Ability to supervise under diverse conditions under limited direct supervision a plus.
Knowledge of the geography relative to the distribution center service territory
Problem solving, decision making, and team leadership skills in a customer service focused environment
Ability to interact with delivery specialists, associates, and customers
Written and verbal communication skills
