Block Institute of Brooklyn, New York is a non-profit, non-sectarian agency dedicated to improving the quality of life for people with disabilities and their families. Block institute has extensive experience providing individualized services for children and adults with developmental disabilities.

We are seeking a Full Time Behavior Intervention Specialist to work with individuals with developmental disabilities. Block Institute is devoted to facilitating habilitative growth of individuals who are cognitively, physically, emotionally, and/or developmentally impaired. Our professional service team executes a whole person approach, providing consideration of all facts in a person’s life, developing specialized treatment planning based on individual needs. Following a comprehensive evaluation of diagnosis impacting skills and abilities, we offer a full range of clinical services.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities include, but not limited to:


Provide staff training in behavior modification principles and behavior support plans.

Develop and implement behavior plans.

Provide follow-up for documentation, support, and implementation of behavior support plans.

Participate and work as part of a team.

Supervise Behavior Intervention Coaches.

Report to Senior Behavioral Intervention Specialist for direct supervision.

Maintain clinical documentation.

Provide crisis intervention as needed.


Master’s Degree in Psychology, Education, or related fields

BCBA credentials or Licensed Psychologist, SW or Mental Health Counselor

Experience with OPWDD regulations preferred


Strong understanding of functional analysis and functional assessments

Possesses leadership qualities

Demonstrates outstanding Computer Skills

Excellent Organizational Skills

Strong Interpersonal Skills

Detail Oriented/Highly Organized

Quality/Accuracy of Work

Good Oral/Written Communication Skills

Upholds Agency Policies, Procedures and Ethics


NYS Licensure in Pyschology; Social Work, Mental Health Counseling or a related field or BCBA; 2+ years behavior management experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities.


Single medical and dental coverage; three (3) weeks vacation; paid sick and personal leave; on-site parking.
