About the Role
This role is for a Sr. Acoustic Test Engineer within the HARMAN X. HARMAN X is the corporate research division that focuses on advanced technology development for applications across all Harman product lines including Automotive, Lifestyle (consumer), and Professional. This position is located in Northridge, California where the successful candidate will have access to world-class tools and facilities.
The Sr. Acoustic Test Engineer will oversee the HARMAN X research facilities and will perform audio/acoustic experiments. The successful candidate will have a solid understanding of acoustical data measurement protocols and best practices for various types of audio products, and have the technical skills to create protocols, fixtures, and automation scripts. Additionally, they will be detail-oriented and have excellent coordination, communication, and collaboration skills. What You Will Do
Maintain laboratory facilities and equipment including Hyperion Spatial Audio Lab, Reference Listening Rooms, and Anechoic Test Chambers
Maintain test protocols, and collaborate with other team members to create novel test systems and protocols
Maintain data, data version control, and data stores
Coordinate and run experiments related to the science of sound perception and immersive audio including physical sensor-based tests and human-based tests.
Recruit human test subjects, coordinate scheduling, and run subject-based psychoacoustic experiments
Configure complex audio systems for testing, demonstrations, and proof-of-concept set-up
Provide tours and walk-throughs
What You Need
Minimum of bachelor’s degree in audio-related discipline: physics, acoustics, music technology, computer science, electrical engineering, etc.
5+ years of relevant work experience
Experience with standard acoustic data collection and audio test systems for headphones, earphones, loudspeakers, and microphones
Experience creating test protocols
Experience with scripted data analysis using MATLAB, Python, or equivalent
Experience with microphones and audio analysis including Fourier transform, windowing, filtering, and general signal processing techniques
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Excellent organization and attention to detail
What is Nice to Have
Experience automating tests
Audio test equipment including Klippel Analyzers, Audio Precision, Listen SoundCheck, Head and Torso simulators, Instrumentation Microphones
Familiarity with DAWs and VSTs
