Job Description
The Global Beverage Food Safety Associate Principal Scientist drives the development and embedding of the global Food Safety culture into PepsiCo's global Stage Gate process to enable execution of innovation projects for North America Beverages (NAB) and North America Nutrition (NAN). This position is responsible for ensuring innovation projects meet global Food Safety Standards and interacting with all levels of management withing Global Beverages and other R&D functions. The Principal Scientist will be exposed to a unique opportunity to contribute to the global food safety agenda at PepsiCo.

As part of a broader Global Functions, Governance and Compliance team, the Associate Principal Scientist will drive R&D food safety strategy for key beverage brands and support broader team initiatives that drive brand growth and innovation, develop food safety communications and contribute to the culture of the team and broader organization.

Responsibilities include:
Driving food safety strategies and plans supporting the PepsiCo NAB and NAN business units along with the Global Beverage Category food safety strategic plan in alignment with the PepsiCo global Food Safety policies
Lead efforts to communicate food safety requirements within the Sector and provide training of all pertinent requirements and best practices around food safety
Food safety subject matter expert for NAB/NAN, driving regional food safety initiatives to enable the maintenance of safe design of processes and products within the current portfolio and with future innovations
Ensure regional business unit food safety compliance for packaging, products and processes and other activities that enable the production of safe legal products for our beverage brands
Deliver technical expertise to develop and drive Food Safety plans/HACCP and food allergens
Deliver food safety risk assessment requirements to support new ingredients, products, packages and processes
Play a leadership role in NAB food safety professional conference execution and food safety resource development, coupled with significant external interface with appropriate regional food safety regulators
Ensure HACCP transfer plans are in place and effective in NAB and all manufacturing sites
Review and approve product ingredients, formulations, allergen labeling and packaging
Ensure allergen management programs are in place where needed and is assessed in all locations
Qualifications/Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Microbiology or Food Science with a strong understanding of microbiological risks assessment in design and manufacturing. Advanced degree MSc/PhD preferred
5+ years industry experience. Strong technical background in Food Safety with experience in microbiological sciences
Experience in dealing with microbiological, chemical and physical food safety risks in design and manufacturing, including beverages; experience with low acid/aseptic products a plus
Solid understanding of regional Food and Drug Regulations
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to develop, influence and lead food safety programs and build connections with other functional groups
Accuracy and attention to detail, with ability to prioritize and balance multiple tasks while working independently
Preferred requirement - experience within food and beverage manufacturing operations, preferably for a multinational company
