The Stay and Play Attendant is responsible for the safety and well being of the children who’s parent(s) and/or guardian are participating in activities at the Y family center. Also demonstrates a commitment to Y’s Core Values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
Provides a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment which fosters the social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and creative development of each child in care.
Communicates with children, parents, and other associates on a regular basis.
Participates in staff meetings, special events, and trainings as assigned.
Demonstrates a commitment to the Y’s core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
Greets every parent and child as they arrive and depart from the area and ensures that parents/guardians follow the sign in/sign out procedures for drop off and pick up according to Y policies/procedures.
Engages children by implementing Question of the Day, thematic discussions, arts and crafts activities, I Am Moving, I Am Learning activities, and best practices daily.
Maintains a clean environment by disinfecting toys, wiping tables and chairs, wiping shelves, putting toys and equipment away properly, cleaning common areas, and wiping bathrooms and sinks down as necessary.
Maintains a safe environment by directly supervising children throughout the program area – encouraging positive behaviors, knowing where each child is at all times and never leaving a child unattended, maintaining the sign in/sign out sheet, identifying potential hazards in the area, and adhering to Y policies and standards.
Completes paperwork as assigned, including Boo Boo reports, behavior reports, incident reports, etc.
Ability to lift and carry children and other items weighing up to 50 pounds.
Ability to participate in physical fitness activities with the students, including walking, running, jumping, and dancing; as well as organized games.
Ability to stand for the entire shift.
Ability to work in and around a gym/pool area with the potential to get wet.
Must have enthusiasm and enjoy working with children of all ages and abilities.
Must be able to communicate in a professional and positive manner to children, parents, guests, and other associates. Should be able to speak and be understood under normal circumstances; and hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid.
Must be able to follow standards and policies as explained in the Stay & Play Staff Handbook, the Stay & Play Parent Manual, and the Y HR Policy Handbook.
Must be able to see and read newsprint with or without corrective lenses.
Must be able to use a computer.
Must be able to enforce all rules and to make effective decisions to assure the safety and security of program participants.
Must be at least 16 years of age.
High School Diploma or GED preferred, but not necessary
Must be available on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays to work
