What You Will Do:
The Education Specialist serves as a role model, change agent, consultant, and facilitator. Assumes responsibility and accountability for the coordination of staff education and development for all nursing personnel, incorporating the standards and philosophy of the Professional Practice Development Department and the Department of Patient Care Services. In addition, the specialist will collaborate with the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) and the Patient Education Specialist to design and develop patient education programs to meet the educational needs of the patients and families served by Shore Health System. Supports the System and Nursing Strategic Plans.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
Collaborates with Nursing Managers, CNS, Patient Education Specialists and staff to assess learning needs and coordinates the development of an annual schedule for educational programs.
Plans and implements generic educational activities to meet identified learning needs, utilizing age appropriate education principles.
Conducts new hire orientation for nursing and revises programs based on changes in policies, trends, and participant evaluations.
Plans and coordinates continuing education offerings for staff at Shore Health System, as well as community and other agencies.
Plans and participates in community educational programs and events as the need arises.
Promotes collaborative relationships among healthcare professionals.
Serves as a resource to staff in developing unit-based educational activities and programs.
Develops and utilizes appropriate evaluative systems to determine effectiveness of educational activities and provides feedback to appropriate individuals.
Participates in Performance Improvement activities.
Participates in the development of annual department and personal professional goals.
Participates in activities that promote professional development through education and other activities that enhance the practice of nursing and education.
Demonstrates an awareness of current trends in nursing that influence nursing practice.
Collaborates with other healthcare team members in developing plans for implementing evidence-based changes into practice.
Strives to achieve excellence of services as described in the CARE Commitments.
Responds to the following Shore Health System codes: Code Red (in the immediate area), Code Pink (if called), Code D (if called).

What You Need to Be Successful:
MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. Master’s required, preferably in Nursing or Education.
Current RN licensure in the State of Maryland.
Minimum of four years of full-time equivalent nursing experience.
Demonstrated teaching, verbal and written communication, and interpersonal skills.
