As a Starbucks Lead Engineer for the Digital Card engineering team you will . . .
Lead the architecture, design, and development of highly performant, resilient, scalable, extensible, and available software. You will collaboratively lead, identify, design, develop and deploy technology and process solutions - enabling the delivery of business capabilities.
This role requires wide and deep technical expertise and the ability to communicate direction and gain buy-in from the team of engineers you work with. Typical activities include designing microservices, technical and functional requirements analysis, solution design, technical development, process improvement, and production support.
Our team embraces SOLID design principles and iterative value delivery – with emphasis on security, reliability, testability, and quality. Services you work on will be consumed by mobile and web clients.
Summary of Key Responsibilities
Works closely with the team to develop the best technical design and approach
Drives approach, design patterns, and systems design for complex and impactful solutions. Initiates process improvements for existing systems
Leads and collaborates in planning, decomposing, estimating, scheduling, prioritization, and resource allocation exercises for complex efforts. Takes the lead on prototype efforts for innovative problems. Builds incrementally, with an eye toward a vision of the final product. Transparent in approach and progress, throughout the process.
Works with the development team through the solution design process. Facilitates requirements gathering and backlog refinement, shapes and guides systems approach, contributes to functional design, and leads technical design and development.
Takes responsibility for maintaining, troubleshooting existing on-premise systems.
Drives the planned roadmap implementation with the team
Troubleshooting production issues, on-call issues, and coming up with appropriate solutions.
Coaches and mentors application developers on the team in learning new skills and technologies.
Works directly with the engineering manager to create and maintain operational Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) on items such as performance, service incidents and tickets set forth by the organization leadership. Identifies systemic problems that need holistic solutions and feedback into platform roadmap exercises.
8+ years of professional industry experience with software development in C#
2+ years of leading team projects with four or more software developers
Strong cloud experience with Azure
Strong software engineering fundamentals including knowledge of design patterns and OO design principles.
Experience in designing and developing a significant component or feature of a scalable service
Experience working with distributed systems and architectures, including SOA, SaaS, and microservices approaches
Experience with architecture, design, implementation, and delivery of high-volume transactional services that perform at scale
Experience with relational and non-relational, NoSQL databases
Strong verbal and written communications skills are a must, as well as the ability to work effectively across internal and external organizations
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
Experience with Azure Service Bus and NServiceBus preferred
