SUMMARY
The National Hockey League is committed to creating compelling digital experiences that bring the excitement of hockey to fans around the globe, while supporting and empowering our 32 member Clubs to do the same. We are seeking a Principal Product Manager to join our team and help achieve our mission.
Our Digital Platforms team’s portfolio includes products such as the NHL App, NHL.com, NHL.TV, streaming and connected device apps, plus support for all 32 Club.com sites and other digital properties & platforms as needed.
In this role, you will work with a team of dedicated Product Managers, Engineers, Designers, Project Managers and QA team, while partnering with colleagues and stakeholders both inside our organization, and at best-of-breed vendors across the globe.
Our ideal Principal Product Manager knows how to juggle priorities in real-time, build relationships and consensus to help deliver success for the business, the fans, and the team itself.
You will work within and help shape a complex technical ecosystem, together with both backend and front end teams, and tightly coupled with the NHL App team.
Your day-to-day will focus on products powered by NHL Stats & Data, with a portfolio across our digital platforms that includes, but is not limited to:

Backend APIs for digital consumer products, eg: com & NHL App

Front end experiences for NHL.com Gamecenter, Scoreboards, Stats/Advanced Stats, Schedules, Standings, Rosters, Player & Puck Tracking, etc.

Tight collaboration with NHL App team on native Stats/Data surfaces & experiences within the app
You will contribute key input for roadmap planning and big-picture strategy, reporting directly to VP, Digital Platforms.
You must be a forward-thinking, innovative hockey expert, comfortable working amidst and through uncertainty, able to ask the tough questions to ensure we build the right thing, and build the thing right.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Execute on a roadmap and vision by converting abstract ideas into actionable steps and realistic deliverables for your scrum teams

Document and work with product leadership to prioritize a backlog with epics and user stories accompanied by detailed acceptance criteria

Lead Agile scrum team(s), forecast timelines, plan releases and coordinate cross-team deliverables within a complex technical ecosystem

Champion data-driven decision making, and develop best practices

Create alignment between engineering, business stakeholders and leadership. Be the first point of contact for questions and clarifications on your portfolio of products and projects

Create transparency and accountability with mechanisms to compile status, identify risks and escalate critical product decisions and information

Work with UX/Research to interview, analyze, observe and learn about your audience to create insights that will shape requirements, features and the product roadmap

Use analytics and data to measure product performance, ROI and drive product prioritization and design decisions

Be a subject matter expert on the product, platform and industry trends, gaining a deep understanding of customer motivations, problems, journeys, and usage patterns

Partner with engineering, user experience, and research teams to constantly experiment and design product solutions that incorporate user feedback through multiple iterations

Drive ideas forward from inception through execution, getting deeply embedded in the details and bridging the gaps where necessary to achieve target outcomes

Lead by example in creating a work environment where we lift each other up and push each other towards our collective success

Keep a pulse on the sports, media, and entertainment best practices and trends, to create best-in-class products and digital experiences
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge Areas/Experience
Required
-
7-10+ years Product Management experience in the sports or data space
-
5+ years of experience working with a major sports league or in sports media
-
Expert-level knowledge of hockey, its statistics, rules, history and culture
-
CSPO, PSPO or similar certification, or equivalent experience working with scrum teams in an agile or modified agile framework
-
Experience shipping data-rich consumer experiences
-
A rich understanding of software engineering ecosystems and related technologies such as REST APIs, oAuth, JSON, and user interface libraries (React)

An ability to translate technical requirements and specifications into easily understood business concepts and vice versa
-
Can show a strong portfolio of shipped products that show a data-inspired strategy and analytics influenced decision making
-
Experience working with design, engineering, and QA teams using agile methodologies

Experience developing requirement documents, user stories, wireframes, mockups, prototypes, and user interaction diagrams
-
Experience in conducting user-research and applying those findings to support data-informed decision-making

SALARY RANGE:
$150-190K
Actual base pay for a successful candidate will be determined based on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to: experience/training, market demands, and geographic location.
