Job Description

DevOps Web Developer at the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI). NCBI uses the web to advance science and health by providing free access to biomedical and genomic information, and as a result it is one of the top 400 most visited sites in the world. NCBI is a diverse group of smart and talented people with various backgrounds, but deeply technical, who collaborate in building critically valuable services for the public. NCBI is home to projects such as PubMed, for example. NCBI is part of the U.S. National Library of Medicine, located in Bethesda, Maryland.

Duties & Responsibilities

MSC is currently searching for a Web Developer to join the DevOps team to provide support to the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This opportunity is a full-time position with MSC and it is on-site in Bethesda, Maryland.

Help build internal web tools that support a modern DevOps pipeline for thousands of NCBI’s apps and services
Work on core software components used by hundreds of applications across NCBI
Work on improving Open Source Software projects that NCBI uses


Web development
if applicant has specialized in front-end development
JavaScript, jQuery, CSS, HTML
if applicant is a backend or a full-stack web developer
Python 3, Django, Django Rest Framework, Celery
Agile development (Scrum)
Bonus Skills

Database modeling and design
MS SQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Solr, JanusGraph
Legacy enterprise reengineering experience
Deep understanding of HTTP, CGI, FCGI, WSGI
Production monitoring and metrics
TICK stack, Grafana, Prometheus
Multi-language build system development and maintenance
Python / C / C++ / Java / Scala / Kotlin / Go
CI/CD / DevOps experience
TeamCity, Buoyant or HashiCorp products
