Position Overview:

We are seeking a Buyer for our Back in the Saddle brand, a key position at our corporate office in North Billerica, Massachusetts. The Back in the Saddle brand is a western and equestrian-themed catalog and internet site that carries a mix of unique apparel, accessories, jewelry and home décor. In this role, the Buyer will be the primary merchant for the print catalog, internet and mobile websites. The successful candidate for this Buyer position will have a background in these equestrian-themed product categories as well as strong analytical skills, product selection and experience in creation of a printed catalog. A history of meeting financial targets with a proven record of success in a growth driven and multifaceted retail environment is essential.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for performing all aspects of work related to the creation of up to five catalog/internet merchandise assortments per year.
  • Utilize reports to assemble an appropriate assortment of products based on category, price point, and imports sales analysis. Accountable for meeting variable contribution target and organizational goals for the brand.
  • Shop domestic and foreign markets for existing product; work with Product Development department to design and source exclusive private label and direct import items.
  • Responsible for price negotiations, product logistics, and vendor relations.
  • Oversee all creative efforts, layouts, copy, positioning and photography.
  • Coordinate with catalog production manager to meet creative deadlines.
  • Work with QC, customer service and the distribution center to resolve customer issues and address high return products.
  • Communicate with Rebuyer and Inventory Control Manager to achieve timely deliveries and manage excess inventory.
  • Supervise and mentor Catalog Production Assistant and Assistant/Associate Buyer(s) in order to further individual growth and meet the Company's organizational goals.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Prior experience and knowledge of western and equestrian market with emphasis on western apparel is highly desired.
  • Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college or university; and two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Prior experience as a merchant purchasing products domestically and internationally for a consumer retail company.
  • Must have experience building and maintaining relationships with vendors.
  • Must have prior experience merchandising clothing, jewelry, gifts and/or home décor.
  • Must be able to travel and attend all-day trade shows domestically and internationally.
