Overall Purpose Of The Job
This position will support the US Department of Veterans Affairs Critical Staffing Program. The person in this position will represent International SOS and provide the services outlined below.
The incumbent provides care of the Veterans' medical needs by performing procedures in the areas of Chemistry, Toxicology and Urinalysis. Test fluid and tissue samples to help physicians properly diagnose and treat their patients. The incumbent will ensure the most effective delivery of care, while meeting and exceeding compliance, Joint Commission and VA Central Office performance measure standard.
Key Responsibilities
- Selects, performs, evaluates and monitors the performance of test procedures using manual and/or instrumental techniques in accordance with established protocols. Recognizes and reacts to indicators of malfunction; locates and implements corrections.
- Evaluates the suitability of the specimen for analysis, requesting new specimen if determined to be unusable.
- Interprets and applies complex written instructions.
- Evaluates the validity of data in relation to the test system and accepted assay procedures. Correlates quantitative data with patient data (i.e., history, medications) to verify results.
- Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Other duties within scope as assigned.
Job Profile
Experience Required:
- Must have current license/certification.
Education Required:
- A bachelor’s or graduate/higher level degree from a regionally accredited college/university including courses in biological science, chemistry and mathematics, AND successful completion of a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Clinical Laboratory Scientist program accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
- DEA License
- For all grade levels and positions, applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Medical Technician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
- Current BLS certification. Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
- Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time.
- May require bending, stooping and lifting to 15 lbs.
Other Special Qualifications:
- US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card is required.
- Must relocate to project site for the duration of the contract.
- Pass a Child abuse and neglect check.
- Pass/possess VA Public Trust Clearance
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $32.60 - $36.29 per hour
