Summary
Recruiting a Chief candidate for the Section of Endocrinology in the Department of Medicine

Job Responsibilities:
Provide oversight of the clinical operations of the Section, including the Faculty Group Practice, the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center (MEDVAMC), the Harris Health Ben Taub General Hospital (BTGH) and the Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center (BSLMC). To assist you in this oversight role, you will delegate appropriate authority to the service chiefs/clinical directors at the MEDVAMC, BTGH, and the BSLMC who will report to you.
With the assistance of the Section Administrator, Section Administrative Assistant, clinical directors and with the support of the Department of Medicine's administrative staff including clinical, financial and research administrators, you will provide oversight of the business and financial operations of the Section. This includes: refinement and implementation of the Section's strategic plans, and ensuring that the timelines for the defined action steps and achievement of associated measures are being met; developing and meeting the Section's annual budget; regular reviews of sources of revenues and expenses; ensuring that direct cost spend rate for grants (80% per grant year standard); monitoring of external grant funding per square foot for assigned lab space; and tracking extramural grant funding.
Managing the Faculty Group Practice toward successful performance and measures of clinical productivity determined by DOM Faculty Group Practice (currently at least the 65th percentile of the UHC benchmarks for wRVUs), as well as relevant MGMA benchmarks for AMS providers; lead improvement initiatives to assure excellence in patient experience, as measured by Press Ganey; and work with college leadership to explore additional opportunities for beneficial joint ventures, as well as collaborate with the Office of Development to raise funds to support Section strategic initiatives.
Education. Provide oversight of the educational programs of the section, which will include: educational initiatives targeted to medical students, medical residents, subspecialty fellowship trainees, post- doctoral research fellows, and faculty; delegation of appropriate leadership authority to the designated program directors, associate director and coordinator while playing an active teaching and mentorship role in the areas of your expertise; and ensuring that trainees in the Section participate in a formal research training post-doctoral fellowship program (e.g., T32 funded program)
Faculty Development and Assessment: With the assistance of the relevant affiliate service chiefs, you will conduct an annual review of the academic progress of each faculty member (including service to the research, teaching, clinical and administrative missions), providing written documentation of the review. You will actively promote the academic careers of your faculty including nominations of qualified individuals for relevant awards, honors, and scholarly opportunities; you will develop in collaboration with Vice Chair of Faculty Staff and Development a mentoring plan for faculty and trainees.
