Position Summary:

As an entry-level sales position in our pawn store locations nationwide. The Pawnbroker/Sales Associate partners with the entire staff of the store, to ensure customer service on both the lending and retail side; by greeting, engaging, and interacting with customers in a positive and professional manner to process sales and loan activity and transactions. Associates will work with all levels of jewelry and general merchandise, as well as all financial solutions offered to customer base.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Greets and interacts with all customers to determine their individual needs and recommend appropriate financial solutions
  • Performs non-management open/close procedures
  • Keeps sales floor clean, stocked and maintains display of merchandise
  • Performs sales and loan transactions
  • Handles all cash and negotiable items in accordance with established policies, procedures and practices
  • Answers incoming calls per company standards
  • Effectively communicates to customers the legal aspects of the pawn and buy transactions
  • Communicates effectively with fellow coworkers and managers, displaying respect and using effective communication tools
  • Partners with all coworkers to create positive and memorable customer experience
  • Successfully completes assigned training
  • Other related duties, as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • Entrepreneurial spirit
  • Strong desire to work, serve customers, and work with people; team oriented
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Basic mathematic skills
  • Cash handling experience required
  • Knowledge of jewelry and general merchandise preferred
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent work ethic and strong business sense
  • Should be able to work in multiple locations as needed
  • Must have the ability to work a flexible retail schedule, including weekends and holidays; based off business needs
  • Computer literate and able to operate common office machines

Work Location:

Primarily indoors. Coworkers may be asked to assist a customer on the exterior of the building (within our parking lots) or to retrieve products stored in exterior storage buildings or other areas.

Physical Requirements:

  • Standing– Frequently throughout work shifts as customers are assisted at the sales counter or on the sales floor; and in non-customer areas for purposes of inventory maintenance and management.
  • Sitting– Occasionally throughout shift in order to complete sales documentation and other paperwork.
  • Bending– Frequently bending in all directions, subject to proper bending techniques as products are brought into or out of pawn or sold (from customer, to storage, to sales floor, to counter).
  • Reaching– Frequently as products are retrieved from storage shelves, carts, and customers.
  • Walking– Frequently within the store as customers are assisted and stock retrieved.
  • Climbing– Frequently to access elevated storage locations.
  • Stooping– Frequently.
  • Kneeling– Occasionally.

Physical Demands/Requirements:

  • Lifting/Carrying– Due to the nature of the pawn industry, the types of products and materials that may be lifted, carried or handled during a work shift varies from day-to-day and week-to-week. On average, a Pawnbroker/Sales Associate will handle jewelry, firearms, tools, bicycles, and electronics (stereo, televisions, and speakers), daily. The frequency of these lifts and the weight of the items handled will also vary. Employees may not lift or carry products or materials above the employee’s safe lifting and carrying amounts, or above any medical restriction. The maximum weight one person will handle ranges from 50-70 pounds. Employees must be capable of lifting 50 pounds. Carts and dollies may be used to limit the carrying distance of any product.
  • Tool Usage– No tools are used on a regular or routine basis during a normal workday. Jeweler’s tools and other power tools are used infrequently.
