MISSION AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Category Advisor Director is an integral member of the Category Management and Walmart customer development teams. This individual will lead a team that develops and presents expert, non-biased category insights with objectivity and the highest level of integrity. The individual in this role must possess and consistently demonstrate an analytic aptitude, a high degree of proactiveness, be very organized, and able to assist heavily in MOD reviews and development. This role will be team office based in Bentonville.

Essential Responsibilities:
Provide actionable reporting, performance insights, marketplace analysis to influence decisions and strategies to grow the category
Provide deep explanation of what is working and what can be improved in the category at Walmart
Draw multiple modulars with various cut-downs annually (with excellence and accuracy).
Proactively anticipate the business needs of the Walmart buyers, and provide insightful, thoughtful, data driven recommendations on growing the Walmart business
Develop standardized reporting that supports the buyers needs to understand business drivers
Critical to role is the ability to synthesize insights and solutions into fact-based communications/recommendations. Must be viewed as the category expert by the customer
Conduct insightful customer and shopper segmentation analysis that align with SOTC or other strategic customer traiting
Perform best practice category management techniques: retail intelligence and space optimization (space/sales, store placement, POG planning)
Ability to create reports and pull data from 3rd party’s as well as interpret and analyze syndicated data such as NPD, Nielsen, IRI
Initiate on-going competitor assessments, what is working and not work at other retailers and/or on different formats at Walmart
Leads the modular development process when required
Assist in formulating strategic and executable customer, sales and category plans, incorporating learnings from all angles of category management and insight activities
Proactively collaborate with the customer and category management teams: identify and facilitate process improvement opportunities, knowledge sharing and best practices application with other team members
Partner Development & Team Building - Providing partners with coaching, feedback, and developmental opportunities while building an effective team:
Personally owns the growth and development of the Category Advisor team at Walmart
Challenges and inspires team members to achieve business results
Provides ongoing feedback and coaching to direct reports throughout the year
Ensures partners adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements
Oversees training and development of team members and makes effective staffing decisions

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
4 year degree, plus an MBA preferred
8+ years prior experience in consumer package goods sales environment, including management, customer marketing and trade marketing experience, and direct selling experience
3+ years of MRD or Shopper Insights experience preferred

SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:
Open and accessible Leadership style, with the ability to consistently achieve positive results
Ability to select and enroll team members and delegate responsibilities to develop and execute product, company and customer business plans
Comprehensive knowledge of the consumer products industry, the category, brand strategies, competitors, classes of trade, with the ability to apply this knowledge to solve complex problems successfully
Demonstrates effective communication and negotiation skills to solve problems, gain agreement with and inform others, while targeting long-term objectives. Uses facts and data analysis to identify good options and make good decisions.
Able to positively influence decision makers to achieve business objectives and ensure a fully aligned customer/company business plan.
Ability to create fact based presentations to translate sales objectives into customer strategy and business plans around distribution, merchandising, promotion and planogram placement.
Demonstrates and effectively applies consumer industry and cross-category knowledge and expertise
Serves as liaison between customer, team counterparts and internal support team members to foster a culture of growth and collaboration
Cultivates a sense of urgency amongst team members to make the most of opportunities, address customer needs and accomplish goals and objectives
Ability to use data and analytics to both drive company strategy and execute strategic objectives of brand groups
