As Product and Privacy Counsel, you’ll have a broad range of responsibilities providing legal guidance on product development initiatives. You will partner with our world-class engineers to develop new technologies while managing legal risk and ensuring regulatory compliance. You will lead our privacy program, assuring that vendors and customers - as well as WePay - adhere to appropriate policies. The ideal candidate is someone who has experience in financial services, privacy, consumer protection and technology with a passion for creating superior customer experiences.
This role will be based out of the WePay office in Redwood City, CA.
Provide guidance to product and engineering teams on regulatory issues related to new and existing features throughout the entire product development lifecycle
Identify product compliance requirements based on card network and other payment system rules, banking laws, tax laws, consumer protection regulations, and information security standards
Interpret how evolving U.S. and foreign privacy laws, including GDPR, apply to WePay as it expands internationally
Resolve questions regarding data sharing with affiliated and nonaffiliated entities
Coordinate with experts at JPMorgan Chase regarding WePay’s interpretation and execution of product compliance requirements
Provide ideas and insights into how WePay can work within the law to create amazing experiences for its customers
5+ years of experience practicing either in-house or at a law firm, with at least 2 years of those years focused on financial services or data privacy
Strong technical background, including familiarity with information security
Clear communication and writing skills
Comfort with ambiguity and a fast-paced culture
Practical, creative, hands-on approach to solving legal challenges
Ability to work independently and take initiative
JD or equivalent from an ABA accredited law school and bar membership in at least one State
New hire attorneys cannot clear onboarding or start with the firm until they are in compliance with the licensing requirements of the jurisdiction where their role will be located. The hired candidate will need to complete a conflicts check.
