Property Accountant

Company Overview: Large property management company located near O’Hare.

Position Overview: The Property Accountant will apply principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports by compiling information, preparing profit and loss statements and utilizing appropriate accounting control procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for the monthly reporting of up to 7 properties
  • Apply GAAP accounting standards to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports
  • Compile and analyze financial information to prepare entries to the general ledger documenting monthly transactions
  • Produce financial reports supporting assets, liabilities and capital, including balance sheets, P & L statements, cash flows and distribution analyses
  • Review A/P documentation for accuracy and compliance with budgets and policies
  • Collaborate with A/P staff to produce and identify weekly A/P disbursements
  • Monitor and document daily cash activity; prepare and submit Daily Cash Report
  • Reconcile bank statements
  • Reconcile all balance sheet accounts; prepare quarterly work papers
  • Prepare monthly sales and use tax returns for city, county and state
  • Monitor and review accounting and related system reports for accuracy and completeness. Review data provided by individual properties, such as A/P
  • Manage and support external auditors in completing annual audits
  • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and periodic reforecasting
  • Establish and assign capital projects in job costing module, e.g., subsequent processing of disbursements
  • Participate on Application Team to assist in accounting system enhancements and report development

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, required
  • CPA or MBA, a plus
  • 0 to 1 year experience in general accounting, required
  • Hospitality or Real Estate experience, a plus
  • General knowledge of financial and accounting software applications
  • Keen ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports
  • Self starter; ability to take initiative

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $55,000.00 /year
