Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a Cognizant Design Engineer in Bethpage, New York with in depth knowledge in the discipline of Power System Engineering. The Design Engineering Professional will be cognizant of the Power system design and installation for an Aircraft Pod for Defense Department Systems. Candidate shall communicate the designs as part of a multi-disciplined team and be able to interface with all disciplines on the team to come up with the design/integration. The candidate should be familiar with principles of electric machines (generators and motors for example) and associated equipment (drives, power converters, rectifiers /inverters/transformers). Candidate shall be able to work design issues both independently, as part of a large multi-disciplined team. Candidate shall be the Cognizant Design Engineering professional experienced with development of Aircraft power systems.
Candidate shall lead coordination efforts amongst all stakeholders impacted by the Power system/component, provide technical guidance and disposition to support manufacturing milestones and flight test efforts as appropriate. Candidate shall coordinate the Cognizant Engineering activities, and priorities with appropriate leadership to ensure completion of a quality product within program cost and schedule expectations. Candidate shall be expected to maintain professional communications and relationships with global supply chain teammates, primary suppliers and customer counterparts to ensure system/component function as required and proactively address all technical issues to ensure program milestones are not compromised. Candidate shall be responsible to ensure that the system/component is technically sound, of the highest quality and satisfies program and schedule requirements
Bachelors of Science degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) with 14 yrs related exp or Master of Science with 12 yrs related exp or Ph.D. in STEM degree with 9 yrs related exp
14+ years of experience in design and implementation of power generation and or Cognizant System Design activities
Can provide leadership without authority to a diverse team of suppliers and stakeholders
Able to develop documentation for trade studies, design reviews, procurements, and acceptance test procedures
Demonstrated technical team leadership
U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain a DoD security clearance (No dual citizenship)
Master of Science or Ph.D. STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) degree
12+ years of experience in design and implementation of power distribution networks
Familiarity with IEEE and NEC design guides and standards as applicable to a test facility system supplying loads for electric machine testing
Experience implementing designs meeting military specifications and requirements
Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple tasks
Excellent communication skills
