Position Summary
Primary Duties Position available for one year from date of hire with the possibility of renewal.

FOUNDATION:
Under the direction of the Interim Associate Dean, the IT Coordinator is responsible for supporting RCE’s information technology infrastructure, systems, and security including databases, business intelligence tools, websites, e-commerce applications, registration and student information systems, a wide variety of office technologies, and classroom media required to ensure the successful operation of the comprehensive array of programs and services offered by Regional & Continuing Education (RCE). Utilizing a knowledge of IT systems, applications, and programming, the incumbent resolves IT needs and implements solutions to ensure IT systems that are both effective and efficient for RCE as well as integrated and compliant with campus standards. Other key duties include assisting with the day-to-day coordination of RCE’s IT team; application programming, implementation, and documentation; database design and analysis; and collaboration with campus technical teams.

CAREER:

Utilizing a proficient knowledge of IT systems, applications, and programming, the incumbent works relatively independently to resolve IT needs and develop solutions to ensure IT systems that are both effective and efficient for RCE as well as integrated and compliant with campus standards. Other key duties include the day-to-day coordination of RCE’s IT team; application programming, implementation, and documentation; database design and analysis; and collaboration with campus technical teams.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

KNOWLEDGE FOR FOUNDATION:Incumbent must possess:
  • Proficiency in:
  • Microsoft Office suite, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio.
  • Basic knowledge of:
  • Server configuration, configuration tools and performance optimization; database programming and queries; Web application programming; and standard business technology applications required to support RCE technology services.
  • Application release from development to production and the use of software revision control systems such as Git.
  • Basic proficiency in:
  • Application documentation processes and tools and IT security issues and mitigation measures.
  • Web content management tools, web application design, and application development standards.
  • General knowledge of:
  • The basics of PCI/DSS and associated requirements for e-commerce and Point of Sale systems.
  • Linux and Windows servers and associated tools, Microsoft SQL and MySQL server management, Oracle database server management, and the principles of advanced queries and analytics.
  • Database design principles and database configuration.
  • Basic understanding of:
  • Content management systems, learning management systems, stand-alone systems, and cloud-based systems.
  • Information security practices and principles.
KNOWLEDGE FOR CAREER:Incumbent must possess:
  • In-depth knowledge of:
  • Web content management tools, web application design, and application development standards; must understand the marriage of functional requests with technology expertise to translate application requirements into user-friendly systems and applications.
  • Database design principles, database configuration.
  • Information security practices and principles, evidenced by demonstrated experience in collaborative security efforts.
  • Proficient knowledge of:
  • Server configuration, configuration tools and performance optimization; database programming and queries; Web application programming; and standard business technology applications required to support RCE technology services.

  • IT security issues and mitigation measures; must know the implications of PCI/DSS and associated requirements for e-commerce and Point of Sale systems.
  • Knowledge of Linux and Windows servers and associated tools, Microsoft SQL and MySQL server management, Oracle database server management, and principles of advanced queries and analytics.
  • Basic knowledge of content management systems, learning management systems, enterprise resource planning systems, stand-alone systems, cloud-based systems, communications protocols, data center operations, and backup processes and best practices.
SKILLS FOR CAREER:Incumbent must possess:
  • Proficiency utilizing Business Intelligence (BI) tools and advanced SQL skills necessary to identify Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and other BI data points.
  • Demonstrated skills in application release from development to production and the use of software revision control systems such as Git.
  • Strong organizational skills to handle heavy workload and manage multiple projects with frequent interruptions and the ability to respond to shifting priorities with swiftness and professionalism.
  • Demonstrated competence in interpreting and communicating information, ideas, and instructions to foster successful projects and to work effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders; this position involves frequent interaction with RCE staff and other departments across campus and requires effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively to achieve results.
ABILITIES FOR FOUNDATION:Incumbent must have the ability to:
  • Interpret and communicate information, ideas, and instructions to foster successful projects and to work effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders including frequent interaction with RCE staff and other departments across campus.
  • Execute shared projects and use communication skills to identify appropriate technology systems, applications and tools.
  • Under general supervision, work on assigned projects, troubleshoot problems, and manage multiple on-going projects.
  • Be proactive and participate in developing recommendations for modifications to action plans to achieve desired results.
ABILITIES FOR CAREER:Incumbent must have the ability to:
  • Develop dynamic data-driven web applications and advanced design skills for systems and applications to support student services (admissions, enrollment, grades, placement), financial services (fee payment, budget analysis) and strategic planning (reporting, projecting, analysis, and what-if scenarios).
  • Plan and execute shared projects with marketing and program directors as well as other RCE users and other technology staff; the ability to apply consultative skills to assess and identify appropriate technology strategies, systems, applications, and tools.
  • Work independently on assigned projects, to trouble-shoot problems, and manage multiple on-going projects; a demonstrated ability to be proactive as demonstrated by recognizing needs, anticipating outcomes and consequences of different approaches, and making necessary modifications to action plans to achieve desired results.
  • Manage the tools required to monitor and track highly detailed and complex data, information systems, and projects.
  • Work with vendors to achieve the most cost effective solutions for the maintenance, customization, and ongoing support of the applications used.

Required Education and/or Experience

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE FOR FOUNDATION:
A bachelor’s degree, preferably in computer science, computer information systems, management information systems, or business OR equivalent training and three months’ full-time applied experience, demonstrating knowledge of systems analysis, application development, and database design, and abilities required for this position.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE FOR CAREER:
A bachelor’s degree, preferably in computer science, computer information systems, management information systems, or business OR equivalent training and applied experience are required. Three years’ of experience in systems analysis, application development, and database design and/or related experience are required to demonstrate the knowledge and ability required for the position.

  • Throughout employment in this position incumbent must maintain a valid California Driver’s License as well as continued completion and compliance of the CSU Defensive Driver’s Training course.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR FOUNDATION AND CAREER:
Incumbent/applicant will need to be able to perform the essential job functions (duties) of this position with or without reasonable accommodation. This position alternates between remaining in a stationary position operating a personal computer for long periods of time and frequently moving about inside the office. Must be able to travel across campus to other offices and buildings on and office campus for meetings and events; must be able to carry and position bulky computer workstations. May work alternate hours to accommodate unit and program need including after hour meetings and special events. The position requires domestic travel. Travel is via private vehicle, rental car, shuttle or plane.

WORK ENVIRONMENT FOR FOUNDATION AND CAREER:
This position involves frequent interaction with RCE staff and other campus units. Work is performed in a typical open office environment with cubicles or segregated office spaces with standard office equipment.
