The mechanical engineer is responsible for the engineering design and development of products targeting unique solutions for StoneAge customers. Custom products are typically based on existing StoneAge waterblast tools and accessories and are modified to solve customer specific problems. This role requires the ability to interact directly with customers to identify solutions to specific problems, and the ability to operate with some independence to rapidly produce custom designs. Additionally, this position will maintain and improve current tool designs to enhance StoneAge’s product offerings. The position requires a collaborative nature, and a mechanical engineer that can communicate across multiple Engineering disciplines.
This position reports to the Engineering Manager.

Quickly generate concepts and determine functional feasibility.
Generate and maintain engineering drawings from internal and external design criteria and in accordance with StoneAge drawing standards. Assist in drawing and specification interpretation to maintain quality.
Participate in the requirement development process for new products via end-user interface, and collaboration with the Product Strategy, Marketing and Engineering Teams.
Estimate material/fabrication costs for custom products. Evaluate product development to cost targets and communicate cost vs. performance conflicts early in the design.
Work with customers, Engineering, and Product Strategy to create system specifications, test plans, assembly instructions, user manuals and other technical design documents.
Perform in-depth design analyses and simulation as required.
Communicate with Machine Shops and Quality Control to identify critical features and tolerances and ensure manufacturability and measurement capabilities.
Execute projects according to specifications, schedules, and budgets.
Continually exhibit and expand engineering knowledge and techniques through multiple, successfully launched projects.
Rapidly deliver custom product design packages for manufacturing.
Ability to multi-task; manage multiple projects, as well as smaller tasks periodically assigned throughout the day.
Excellent ability to communicate and establish key product requirements to ensure customer satisfaction via phone conversations, email exchanges, and video conferences.
Resolve issues and concerns with cross functional teams including Sales, Engineering, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Assembly, and/or Shipping.
Participate in the sourcing process and interface with Supply Chain team and suppliers as required to assure availability of specified components.
Product Test and Release:
Assist in assembly of prototype products.
Draft test plans and perform testing for evaluating the performance, safety and reliability of prototype designs. This testing may be in-house or in the field at a customer location.
Review and evaluate field-tested units and customer feedback on field tested units to improve product design.
Train end-users, Dealers, or StoneAge staff on proper tool assembly, maintenance and operation.
Assist manufacturing in the building, testing, and training associated with new products.
Maintain real-time communication regarding project status, obstacles, key design decisions and schedule with Engineering Leads, Project Manager and/or the Engineering Manager.
Create Engineering Change Notices (ECN) when engineering drawings are revised and work with Production Coordination for recording/ implementing any reworks required outside the ECN process.
Perform any additional duties requested by the Engineering Manager.
KNOWLEDGE AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) from an accredited college or university.
5+ years of relevant mechanical design experience.
Strong team mentality, flexible, inventive.
Expertise in any of the following: machine design, material science, seal type and design, pressure containment
CAD proficiency (SolidWorks is preferred).
Experience in design for manufacturing.
Experience in product research and development.
Hands-on mechanical or machining experience.
Working knowledge of MS Office software
Dynamic system design, development, and control - electric, pneumatic, hydraulic.
Experience related to product design in the waterblast industry
